It's been a week since Karve In 10, and our committee is still recovering from all the amazing talent that came, all our returning friends, our incredibly generous sponsors, and some wonderful new faces. Karve In has become a premier woodcarving event in the Midwest, and we have all of you to thank for it! Last Saturday at Karve In 10, we announced Rick Bartels as our next Featured Carver. Please add April 10, 2027, to your calendar so you can come. Rick will be bringing many of his carvings, but this 51' chain of 236 links is something he is especially known for – you will want to see it in person. Stay tuned for one more post in just a few minutes that will wrap up our very special Karve In 10!

Jared Torkelson was a wonderful Featured Carver for our 10th event. He is creative and takes carving back to a truly utilitarian art form. Not only does he carve, but he also makes his carving tools. It was remarkable to see what he has made and watch him turn a bowl at Karve In 10!

Karve In was started in 2017 to promote the art and hobby of woodcarving and to highlight the collection of books about carving that were at the Bekkum Memorial Library in Westby. For our special 10th event, private collections from local museums and an avid collector were asked to participate. Thank you to Bekkum Memorial Library, the Vernon County Historical Society, Karen, the La Crosse County Historical Society, the Westby Area Historical Society and Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center (sorry, someone stepped in front of the picture) for bringing some wonderful items from their collections!

Because Westby is steeped in Norwegian heritage, as a special treat for the 10th Karve In, the committee arranged for Norwegian crafters and bakers to show off their talents at the event. All carvers got 2 delicious cookies from the Kvarnström's Bakery. They also got to see rosemalers, a knitter, a tatter and two people doing hardanger embroidery. Thank you to these people who brought a special Scandinavian flair to our event!

As a way to celebrate our special Karve In 10, we had some wonderful "perks" for the carvers. Two $100 prizes were won for tuition at the Vesterheim Folk Art School or in their gift shop. Leigh Running was one of those very happy winners. Thank you, Vesterheim and Brian, for sponsoring those prizes!

Our last and biggest announcement at Karve In 10 yesterday was that Rick Bartels will be our Karve In 11 Featured Carver on Saturday, April 10, 2027!
