The Adams County Arts Council-Artist Guild was delighted to present our local artists’ works by providing a centerpiece and six place settings for the Adams County Chamber of Commerce – Edge of Excellence Award.

The Adams County Arts Council extends its sincere appreciation to Chris Brown for sponsoring the Artist Guild table at the event. As owner of Peebles Monument Company and an accomplished local artist, Mr. Brown is an active member of the Artist Guild and has made significant contributions to enhancing the presence of art within our community.
We also wish to thank the following artists for their contribution to decorating the table:

The Centerpiece
 Colors come alive in the Adams County landscape in the fall which was the inspiration of the vase. A carved, burned and painted gourd created by Linda Richey
 An art box which contains all the supplies you will need to create your own works of art, along with Shuttle Art pads and canvases donated by Gary and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Place Settings
 The place mats were quilted by Linda Richey to recognize six of the original quilt barn squares honoring Donna Sue Groves and her mother Maxine Groves who was a master quilter.
 These organically inspired plates are made of speckled clay, hand formed and stamped with a maple leaf motif, finished with a deep olive speckle glaze and made right here in Adams County by artist, Ashley Myer and Ann Scott, at The Makery at Buckeye Place. They are made with food safe clay and glaze so they are a very healthy food service option and will retain their beauty longest with handwashing and air drying.
 The elegant note cards feature birds observed in Rae Nicholes’s backyard, meticulously rendered in colored pencil. The barn illustration depicts an Ohio barn, also created with colored pencil, while graphite has been employed to accurately capture the likeness of two of the birds.
 Faye Stapleton, a seasoned artist, began exploring watercolor just three years ago. She has captured not only the beauty of roosters, our feathered friends, but also their mischievous personalities. Her vibrant use of color and expressive brushstrokes bring each rooster to life, allowing viewers to almost hear their morning calls echoing from her paintings.
 The mural postcards were donated by the Adams County Arts Council

This year at the All-County Arts & Music Festival on March 18th, the Adams County Arts Council awarded two $500 scholarships to Nina McCann and Leeland Barry.
Magie Hoff was a well-loved member of our community, a talented musician and a friend of the arts. She was the organist for the Presbyterian Church in West Union, taught music at West Union High School, Waverly High School, and Ohio Northern University and gave many private piano and voice lessons. Through the years, Maggie brought her talents to many musical groups, including The Liberty Cornet Band, which she directed for 26 years.
The Maggie Hoff Arts Scholarship was established by Maggie’s 2 children, daughter Margaret Cook and son Trygve Hoff with the help of the Adams County Arts Council to honor Maggie’s life contributions to the Arts.

Nina McCann from West Union High, is an overachiever. She is the definition of a well-rounded student, involved in academics, music, theater and sports. She has participated in the following:
4 varsity sports; Basketball, Volleyball, Golf and Cross Country
National Honor Society, Beta, 4H, Student Senate and Academic Team Choir, Chamber Choir, Band, Pep Band, Hand Bells, Winter Percussion, Steel Drum Band, School Musicals, Voices of Appalachia Community Choir, All County Band and Choir, MSU choral Fest as well as private piano lessons for 11 years. The list goes on and on, but one of her biggest and most noble activities outside of the arts is that over the past 10 years, she has rescued more than 100 cats, had them spade or neutered, and found them loving homes.
She plans to study pre-med with a minor in music at Ohio State University

LeeLand Barry is from North Adams High School. He has participated in the Band for 6 years, Choir 4 years, musical theatre 5 years, All County Band and Choir 4 years, 3 years of MSU Choral Fest, 2 years of pit orchestra, and 2 years of Voices of Appalachia Community Choir.
He also participates as a member of his school’s Academic Team, Mock Trial, and Archery team
He plans to attend either Morehead State University or Marshall University to study Vocal Music Education and become a high school choir director.

The Adams County Arts Council – Artist Guild gathered on December 8th at the Peebles Monument Company, with Chris Brown serving as host. New members Shannon Wilinson, Patricia Beech, Rae Nichols, and Geneva Schiffmeyer were welcomed into the group. Attendees enjoyed a selection of appetizers provided by Rae Nichols and Faye Stapleton, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for conversation and connection.
During the meeting, Chris Brown led participants on a tour of his establishment, providing insights into his artistic process and craftsmanship. He demonstrated his technique for etching intricate scenic and landscape designs onto granite, sharing the artistry and skill involved in the work. Members of the Artist Guild had the opportunity to try their hand at using the etching tool on a piece of granite, offering a hands-on experience and further appreciation for the craft.
The next Artist Guild meeting is scheduled for January 19th, 2026, from 5:30–6:30 pm at the Adams County Training and Business Center, located at 107 E. Walnut Street in West Union, Ohio (the old IGA building). The group will discuss strategies for expanding the Artist Guild and developing a directory, as well as begin planning a spring event. All members of the community, whether artists or art enthusiasts, are invited to attend and participate in the continued efforts to make art accessible throughout Adams County.
