Department M – Baked and Canned Foods

1. Each exhibitor is limited to one entry per class. There are no entry fees. Exhibitors are responsible for placing entries in the correct divisions and classes. Classes with grade restrictions are for the grade just completed. Youth and Junior classes must state the age on the entry tag.
2. Items should be brought to the 4-H Exhibit Hall on the Fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 21 between 8:00 A.M. and 11:30 P.M. Entry tags will be attached to each item. All items must be checked in.
3. The Fair Board and Superintendent will strive to assure the safety of all items after arrival and placement, but neither the Board nor Superintendent will be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits.
4. Judging will be Tuesday, July 21 beginning at 12:00 P.M. Photos will be taken after the judging is completed.
5. There will be one blue ribbon, one red ribbon and one white ribbon awarded per class. Blue ribbons will be paid $5.00 each, red ribbons $3.00 and white $1.00. Best of Show rosettes will be awarded an additional prize
6. The superintendent and the Fair Board reserve the right to disqualify any entry.
7. Exhibits and ribbons will be released from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 25. Neither the Fair Board nor the superintendent is responsible for exhibits left after 8:00 P.M. on Saturday.
8. All exhibits must be homemade and the work of the exhibitor. Exhibitors are encouraged to supply a recipe including ingredients and method with the exhibit.
9. No article entered in a single class may be entered in a collection or vice versa.
10. Display on hard paper plates or boards, not in pans. All baked food entries should be delivered in individual plastic bags rather than in plastic wrap. Entry tags should be attached to the outside of the plastic bag in a manner that does not interfere with opening the bag.
11. All canned food entries must be in clear standard glass jars (leave the rings on). Canned foods should be clearly labeled, dated and prepared after July 1, 2025. Exhibitors must bring 2 jars of each entry. One will be opened for judging, the other will remain sealed for display. The jars do not need to be identical in size; however both must be in clear standard canning jars. Exhibitors are encouraged to pick up the opened jar and take it home for family use.
12. You may fill out entry tags when you bring your exhibits in on Tuesday, July 21. However, if you would like to save time, you might want to fill out the Open Class Entry Form and mail it to the fair office before Saturday, July 11 and your entry tags will be ready for you to attach to your exhibit when you
arrive.
13. Recipes are not required, however are recommended because this may help the judge critique the exhibit.
