On Thursday, April 2, Adam Larsson of the Seattle Kraken celebrated 1000 games in the NHL, one of the most difficult accomplishments in the sport. I had the incredible honor of painting the portrait that was presented to him during the on-ice pregame ceremony. It captures his 15-year career with the Devils, Oilers, and Kraken, set against Seattle’s famous Space Needle and Cascade Mountains. He was joined by his family and a few teammates, as well as the Kraken’s GM Ron Francis, and chairperson Samantha Holloway .
In 1996, I submitted my colored pencil drawing of Boston Bruins defenseman Ray Bourque to Sports Illustrated for Kids, and its publication in the magazine ignited the fire for my sports art career to follow. 30 years later, it is such an honor to be the artist the Seattle Kraken called when they needed a painting for this special occasion. It is hard to describe the feeling of seeing my painting unveiled on the ice in front of the players, team execs, and 17,000 fans.
