Sometimes the best ideas come from teacher friends.

A colleague mentioned she wanted a better way to do an “Interview Your Neighbor” lesson with her 3rd–5th graders. That sparked me to take what I already do in my own classroom and turn it into something that could also work for 6th grade.

The result is a 4-page activity pack where students:

• Interview a classmate and create a portrait (3 pages of drawing prompts and a large layout)

• Collect class survey data (favorite colors, foods, hobbies, animals) and build a bar graph together

What I love about this is how it shifts from personal creativity to group collaboration to cross-curricular thinking. It’s not just portraits or numbers; it’s students realizing how their voices and choices connect.

I just uploaded this to my Teachers Pay Teachers store, and I’m excited for more classrooms to try it.

I sold my first art resource bundle.

This week, I sold my very first Art Critique Packet on Teachers Pay Teachers through A Carmelino Collective!

This resource has been years in the making. I began developing it over 4 years ago, inspired by a midterm critique test from my time at Magnet Art School in Miami (Southwood Middle). I wanted my students to experience critiques not as stressful tests, but as meaningful conversations. So, I put my own twist on it by adding a glossary, artwork labels, and a peer critique structure designed like an artist talk / talk show.

Over time, it’s become one of the most valuable tools in my classroom. It helps students build vocabulary, reflect on their work, and practice speaking about art with confidence.

Now, knowing it’s being used in another teacher’s classroom makes the journey feel full circle.

I’m excited to keep creating and sharing resources that bring creativity, structure, and student voice into classrooms everywhere.

New Resource Alert!

I just posted a brand-new activity on Teachers Pay Teachers through A Carmelino Collective!

It’s called the School Beautification Project: Ceiling Painting Activity, and it’s one of my favorite projects to do with students. Using a simple grid drawing worksheet, students design artwork that can later be transferred onto ceiling panels. The result? A creative project that not only builds their art skills but also leaves a lasting mark on the school.

This activity works especially well with grades 3–6, art clubs, and after-school programs. It teaches scale, proportion, and collaboration. All while giving students the chance to transform their environment with art.

Excited to keep sharing resources that help classrooms (and schools) look and feel a little more creative.

One of the best parts of class is seeing students pause and reflect after finishing their projects.

Using the Art Critique & Artist Talk Worksheets, they’re able to:

-Look closely at their own work.
-Share what they see with their peers.
-Build confidence in explaining their creative choices.

These worksheets give structure to what can feel like the hardest step; talking about art and turn it into a meaningful part of the creative process in their art flow.

Big win today!

I made my very first sale on Teachers Pay Teachers through A Carmelino Collective! The resource was my Art Room Scavenger Hunt and it is something I use with my own students to help them learn the art room routines in a fun, interactive way.

It feels pretty awesome knowing that what I created for my class is now being used by another teacher out there. This is just the start, and I’m excited to keep building resources that make teaching and learning a little more creative.
