Very few humans are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an ancient and mythical creature in their lifetimes. Even fewer get to spend time in their company.

Cindy was a being of fierce resilience and fae beauty, and she chose and when she needed help, and they gave her every kindness before she crossed the rainbow bridge. When and I heard that Cindy had left our realm, we had to do something to bring our friends comfort. Care package from the Florida friends to our California friends! Jean’s work is full of vibrant joy and if I see her post her Cindy painting, I’ll repost it.

I made this little painting (6x9”, graphite and acrylic on watercolor paper) in a style I thought Matt would appreciate as a comic guy. Comic type lettering took some research and practice - doing something outside my usual wheelhouse was a great challenge! The tiny sketch in ink on Duralar to welcome her siblings Zino and Sirius home.

A flower box for Gus Gus, 2025. The portrait is ~1”, acrylic on wood, and I included a bird because his human loves birds as well as cats. Tiny containers make me happy. So do these colors. And cats and birds and flowers. I hope you all have a fantastic Caturday!

GUYS. We found the answer and it’s NOT what anyone thought.

Why do all our cats hate foil? CONSPIRACY THEORIES. They’re full of them. Aliens. Cryptids. Lizard people. Being free to go if the teacher is 15 minutes late. Every one, courtesy of cats, and since foil repels conspiracy theories, it also repels cats.

There. Everything is explained now. Should I color this one or leave the ink plain?

Can you even imagine telling people your job is afternoon napping with baby tigers? What does his business card even say? “Professional Tigernapper” sounds like he’s taking them somewhere, and they clearly didn’t get too far before the Zzzz’s started so not that. Anyway. SO SOFT BIG BABIES. Best job EVER.

I thought the “but with your glasses off” vibe suited Mr. Tigersitting Meme Guy. It was fun to try something new stylistically without being concerned about changing things up on a commission…very chill.

Maybe your furry babies have some longstanding Yosemite Sam-style grudge. Maybe what your wall needs is a household cat retrospective. Anyway, I hear the question “Can you combine two pictures into one painting?” from time to time.

Enter the Catstack! Maybe it gives JC Penney Matching Outfits Photo Shoot, but owning that is pretty Cat Energy imo. All of these paintings were done from separate reference photos, with slight adjustments to match up angles and lighting.

This little cat painting from a year or two ago is on glass instead of plexi. I really enjoyed the tactile component of working on glass, and the soft chalky look from the matte varnish that helps the paint adhere. Unfortunately, the surface was so delicate it flaked a bit in handling, and was pretty unforgiving about touchups.

I don’t want to give up on glass though. Beyond enjoyment, I feel like it might read as a more high-end product even though plexi actually costs more to buy? What do you guys think? I also kind of like the fragility of it, symbolically.
