TAMPA TRAFFIC is a funky jam by Tru Phonic . I was lucky enough to move back to Florida just in time to take the reins on this album. The song has a laid-back feel, while the story is reminiscent of something you might be telling a promoter over a chorus of car horns as you’re explaining why you missed soundcheck.
The band plays out a lot, so leaning into that, and taying true to their jam band/funk roots, we tracked nearly all of the song live to capture the feel and chemistry that only comes from a band that’s spent countless hours on stage together.
On the production side, this song was practically begging for something fat and dry, but big. It was important to me to land somewhere between retro and modern—keeping all of the warmth and punch of an older record without sacrificing the size and impact you’d expect today.
Enjoy!
