For my last night in California I ventured to the famous In-and-Out burger joint to see if the hype behind their fast food is true or not. I gotta say for the price the beef quality and the fries are very good! I was always a Shakeshack guy up until now, but their prices were always super expensive. In-and-Out is pure West Coast cuisine!

2024 has finally come to an end and even though I missed Saturday the knowledge and networking opportunity here was invaluable and priceless. I’m lucky and humbled by this experience. I’ve learned here that no matter what state the industry is in, or wherever I working the interim to cover bills I will always be an animator because that key feeling of wanting to draw and create new things will always be there and now I know there’s literally thousands of us artists out here fighting for that feeling. I hope to get to revisit here every year.

YO is the gift that just keeps on giving. I was wandering around the Artist Alley and randomly spotted performing a live drawing of an expo guest! He’s the main character designer behind Danny Phantom and Kim Possible who is the main reason why these shows are stylized the way that they are. He blessed me with a coupon to his design course! I was very lucky to meet THE at today! Dude is a character design LEGEND! He accomplished multiple character designs for Disney including the new version of Mickey Mouse from the new shorts I loved watching in college. Man is a cartoon hero and deserves so much respect for bringing his fun modern style to lifelong iconic classic characters. I had no idea he was here until I was scrolling on LinkIn and I just had to catch him before the expo was over. What a great experience!

I was very fortunate today at to get the last spot at the Q&A for the Disney Recruitment panel hosted by Matt Roberts (Walt Disney
Animation Studios), Peggy Dollaghan (Pixar), Lex Randleman (Disney Television Animation), Laura Holliday (Lucasfilm/Lucasfilm Animation) and Lori Beck (ILM). These industry insiders gave me what I was desperately searching for here all the way on in the west coast, direction. As a 6-year postgraduate Alumni from the other side of the continent I’ve been feeling lost on how to break into the animation industry and felt lost. However, now I know that my main focus shouldn’t be auditing college credit classes to apply for internships, rushing into relocating to LA or mindlessly applying to multiple positions that aren’t the one I truly want to thrive in. From here on out I need to apply for apprenticeship programs to gain studio experience on my resume and constantly updating my demo-reel. This knowledge has been invaluable and now I can fly back home to Jersey with a new sense of purpose. My time at SAIC didn’t prepare me for internship programs or what recruiters are really looking for in new talent. I will achieve this goal to gain entry level studio work! I’m so lucky and humbled to be here. Thank you so much!

Had a very informative panel today at today discussing how to organize and prepare your portfolio for studio recruiters, and also the importance of etiquette while networking on LinkedIn. They each brought up perspectives on how to promote yourself and apply to job openings that I never learned at SAIC. I’m truly humbled and appreciative for the knowledge they bestowed upon me today.

& had a very insightful panel this morning about the structure for the industry pipeline of Japanese Animation studios and how to get recruited as a foreigner. Both of these things were a mystery to me until today. Unfortunately I missed the cut off at the Q&A but I got to talk to them both at their booth and they were both very friendly and informative about the process. It’s ironic that the West has too many animators and not enough demand, but the East has too much demand and not enough animators. Meanwhile on both sides animators are still fighting to get paid more for the hours they put in. These are interesting times.
