Some days are full of magic. 

One of my favorite things about the floral industry are the incredible, creative, kind, artistic fellow florists I’ve met. Today I had the pleasure of hosting THE Ace Berry and the creators of Fleurspace in my studio. More on that to come, but I had to share this short, magic, pinch me moment where I got to share a piano bench with someone who has inspired me so much with his creativity and heart. Thank god the only piano song we both know is the same one!

When did you last actually stop to smell a flower?

Not a passing glance on your way somewhere. A real, slow, nose-in-the-petals kind of smell.
Here’s the lovely part: your brain is already listening. Researchers in Sweden found that your olfactory bulb reads a scent as pleasant or unpleasant in about a quarter of a second — faster than you can think a thought about it (Iravani et al., 2021).

And a team at Chiba University found that when people breathed in fresh roses, their parasympathetic nervous system woke up — the branch that quietly tells your body you’re safe, you can put it down for a minute (Igarashi et al., 2014).
A quarter of a second. That’s all it takes to hand your nervous system something good.

This is the whole reason I teach flower arranging. For an hour, your breath slows, your hands get busy, and your eyes rest on something living instead of a screen. No skill required — I promise you already have everything you need.
