Position Title: House Soundman (Audio Department) (applies to Belding Theater)
Department: Audio/Sound
Reports To: House Head Carpenter
Salary Range: As season dictates according to programming
Broad Duties: This position requires that anyone filling it be available to work any and all calls in this venue. The House Soundman (Audio Department) Responsible for operation and maintenance of permanently installed house sound system and all associated equipment. Skilled in the installation and operation and troubleshooting of temporary sound systems rented or owned, used in this facility.
Education:
Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical skills like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of three (3) year’s of directly job-related experience.
Certification/Licensing:
None.
Defined Skills:
This position requires that the applicant have a working knowledge of the following items.
1. Able to evaluate workers qualifications and match their competencies to position requirements.
2. Skilled in the installation and operation of varied sound systems.
3. Skilled in the operation of the following system components (communication systems, comp/limiters, effects units, equalizers, noise gates, midi, amplifiers, speakers, dynamic/electret/pressure zone/phase coherent microphones, recording and reproduction devices, and industry- standard control consoles.
4. Skilled in the area of audio mixing at varied levels. Examples: (symphonic, jazz, lecture, rock, etc…)
5. Poses strong communication skills.
6. Trouble shooting and repair of sound systems and plots.
7. Must posses a working knowledge of advanced audio and acoustic theory and physical law.
8. Knowledgeable as to determining a production’s needs, and supplementing equipment requirements.
9. Documentation skills related to record keeping and ordering of new or rented equipment.
10. Basic computer skills in Word, Excel and E- mail services.
11. Posses a basic understanding of Multi-media/Audio Visual needs.
12. Knowledge of inventory and proper care and preventative maintenance procedures.
13. Use and care of hand and power tools.
14. Familiar with all associated common and stage hardware as it relates to the audio department.
15. Familiar with materials and their handling as it relates to the audio department.
16. Proper procedures for all applications under show conditions
