Today is NATIONAL FARMERS DAY. Farming is one of the world’s oldest occupations, dating back thousands of years to the earliest settled communities. Farmers continue that long tradition by growing the food & fiber people depend on every day.

Howard County is fortunate enough to have
producing farms within the county & surrounding areas. It’s a bonus to know your food source. Buy local & support our area farmers.

NovemBER and DecemBER. . .
The crisp morning air reminds us that Autumn is here & Winter is soon to follow. It’s generally regarded as the end of the growing season. In the autumn season, the daylight grows shorter, and animals prepare for the long, cold months ahead.

5. Clean Your Chimney
... REB6. Test Carbon Monoxide and Smoke

7. Shut Down the Sprinkler System
•Turn Off the Water
•Switch Off Your Timer
•Drain the Water
•Leave Your Backflow Valves Partially
Open
•Insulate Above-Ground
8. Drain Outside Faucets
9. Cleanup and Rake the Yard
10. Aerate your Lawn
11. Start Growing Grass
12. Fertilize the Grass
13. Remove Dead (or Dying) Trees
14. Scan Your Roof

ITS LABOR DAY WEEKEND . . .
If you fire up your grill one more time to celebrate this Labor Day, take a minute to think about the hardworking men & women who have labored hard in the fields & waterways for the entire summer to produce amazing food for our tables. Thanks to local producers we’ve enjoyed quality burgers, steaks, hot dogs, fresh sweet corn, garden vegetables & MD crabs.

Even though the growing season for fresh produce is coming to an end, producers are still busy growing fall mums,, gourds, squash & pumpkins & picking apples. Others are busy shearing their fir tree crop shaping them into beautiful Christmas trees or raising thousands of turkeys for our holiday tables. It’s important to know your food source so continue to support our local producers & enjoy your Labor Day celebrations & the wonderful seasons ahead.
