Today we say goodbye to a wise and beautiful old soul.

For many years, Violet, our eldest Red Fox, graced this world with quiet strength, gentle dignity, and a spirit that never lost its spark. At 15 years old, she lived a remarkable life—one that few foxes are given—and her silver coat told the story of a life well lived, filled with seasons of adventure, rest, resilience, and grace. She taught us to appreciate life's simple moments: the warmth of the sun, the comfort of a familiar place, and the peace found in simply being present with her family. Though age slowed her steps, it never diminished the beauty of her spirit. She was more than a fox. She was a companion, a source of wonder, and a reminder of the wild beauty that exists in the world around us. Her presence brought joy, and her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

We take comfort in knowing that she lived a long life and was deeply loved. The memories Violet leaves behind will remain with us always—her watchful eyes, her gentle nature, and the excited companionship she offered so freely. Now she rests beyond pain and beyond age, free once more to roam wherever the wind may carry her. Violet was loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond words.

Farewell, sweet girl. Thank you for every moment and every memory.

🐢 Celebrate World Turtle Day with Randall Oaks Zoo!🐢
World Turtle Day, celebrated annually on May 23rd, is an international event dedicated to protecting turtles and tortoises.

Here at our zoo, we have many turtles and tortoises, but today we want to take the time to specifically highlight our three turtles, Tank the Red Eared Slider, and Cuff and Link, the Eastern Box Turtles.

Even though turtles and tortoises are related to one another, turtles differ from tortoises; in where they live and what they eat. Typically, most turtles live in water, but others like our box turtles like to live near water too.

Turtles are also omnivores, feeding on plants and meat. Tortoises, on the other hand, only like to eat plants. Both our turtle and tortoise friends are threatened in the wild by human activity. Habitat loss, car collisions, and the pet trade industry are their biggest threats.

How are we helping turtles in the wild at Randall Oaks Zoo? By educating guests as to how important turtles are for our ecosystems and that we need to watch for animals while driving.

Tank, Cuff, and Link are ambassador species here at the zoo which means they get to go to schools, nursing homes, and camps, showing just how amazing turtles are.

The third Friday in May is Endangered Species Day and we’re celebrating by bringing you along into our new Macaw enclosure at the World of Wonders Building!

On this day we celebrate wildlife conservation, raise awareness about at-risk species, and promote actions to help protect them.

Did you know that Military Macaws (and many other Macaw species) are considered endangered? This is due to their natural habitat being destroyed by deforestation & illegal poaching for pet trade.

Zoos and aquariums help endangered species through conservation efforts- Our beloved macaws are now enjoying a beautifully redesigned enclosure, created to better reflect a more natural habitat for our birds and provide an even more engaging experience for our guests. This renovation allows us to enhance their daily enrichment while giving visitors a deeper appreciation for these incredible parrots and the ecosystems they call home.

We have 3 resident macaws that call Randall Oaks Zoo home! “Tarzan” is a Military Macaw, and “Echo & Captain” are Blue & Gold Macaws.

We invite you to stop by the World of Wonders building to see the transformation for yourself. Come experience the color, sound, and energy of our macaws in their newly reimagined space!

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bobcat, “Marley”, a cherished resident of the Zoo and a beloved ambassador for his species. For nearly twelve years at the Zoo, Marley has captivated visitors and staff alike with his piercing eyes, quiet grace, and unmistakable spirit.

To his Zookeepers, Marley was far more than an animal in their care. He was a trusted companion, a daily source of joy, and a reminder of the importance of wildlife conservation. Marley was also a favorite among Zoo guests, many of whom planned their visits around his daily Zookeeper chats. Crowds would gather to hear stories about his personality, habits, and care, and witness his reactions during training sessions. Throughout his life, Marley helped educate thousands of guests about native wildlife and the challenges facing wild bobcat populations. Through his presence, countless visitors developed a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the need to protect it.

In his later years, age-related health complications gradually slowed him down. After careful consultation with veterinary staff and with his comfort and dignity foremost in mind, the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize him peacefully on 5/12/26.

Marley leaves behind not only a devoted Zoo family but also the many guests whose lives he has touched over the years. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

We invite visitors and friends to share memories and photos of Marley as we celebrate a life that inspired wonder, compassion, and respect for wildlife.
Rest peacefully, Marley. You will be deeply missed.
