Pinecones, suspended in a sea of green.

This substantial hollow form began as real pinecones cast in translucent resin, then turned on the lathe until the whole surface became one flowing pattern. The green swirls like glass, and the copper of the cones glows against it.

It also marks a milestone. The shop has been quiet for a good while as we worked through everything the new space could throw at us, from major electrical upgrades to climate control problems that affected the equipment. That chapter is finally closed, and full-time woodturning has begun in earnest.

Next up: an upcoming art fair and several exhibit submissions across the country. We're glad to be back, and we can't wait to share what's coming.

I'm honored to share that this piece has been invited into Echoes: Revisiting Memory, a juried exhibition at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, MI.

This one started with driftwood ~ wood that had already been shaped and smoothed by water long before it reached my lathe. For a show about memory, it felt like the right piece to send.

Thank you to Crooked Tree for including it.

A month of quiet here on Facebook, and there’s a reason for it.

We moved. New house, new shop, and an old property that needs a fair amount of work before it can support the kind of turning I do. The shop came with power that isn’t close to what a professional lathe needs, so the big machines have sat since we arrived.

I picked up a fourth lathe that runs on 110, which kept me working at a smaller scale. Not for long stretches. There’s no A/C out there yet, and it’s been brutal since we got here, so a few hours at a time was all the shop would give me. A couple of pieces are in progress. I’ll share those soon.

The A/C is waiting on the same thing everything else is waiting on. Power.

Today the van showed up. Panel and service upgrade first, then the rest of the list.

Moving a shop full of lathes from Illinois to Michigan is not a small thing, but the heavy equipment movers have the hard part. I'm here without them for now.

A natural crack runs the length of the body, stabilized with black epoxy ~ a clean, deliberate line against the grain. On the opposite side, the wood's own figure forms a separate marking entirely natural. One of a kind.

Humbled to share this piece from the Three Rivers Commercial News ~ a conversation with Robert Tomlinson about what led me to woodturning and where this next chapter for Treverk is heading.

A pretty amazing life change brought me to SW Michigan and it already feels like home.
