Legend has it that the “ghost light” must always be kept on in a theater to give spirits a chance to perform when the venue is closed.

Our new ghost light burns bright. All night.

RocHaus Friends & Family,

Three years ago, I stood at the helm of my last RocHaus show, handed over the keys, and looked forward to the next chapter for this iconic old theater on the river.

That chapter didn’t unfold the way everyone had hoped, and the current operators have chosen to end their lease two years early. That’s life. Sometimes the set list changes before the song is over.

My connection to this building started years ago when I walked into the old Clearwater Theater to see my friends Local H perform. I remember being struck by the room immediately. It had soul. It had scars. It had history. And most of all, it had potential.

A few years later, I had the good fortune to acquire the building and begin a two-year renovation to bring it back to life. We reopened as RocHaus with an unforgettable, over-the-top performance by Living Colour, and from that night forward, this stage became something special.

Since then, RocHaus has welcomed local, regional, national, and international artists. It has given professional musicians, rising bands, weekend warriors, and first-time performers a world-class place to share their song.

To me, RocHaus has always been more than a building. It is an oasis for people who believe music still matters. A place where strangers become a crowd, a crowd becomes a community, and for a few hours, the noise of the world gives way to something better.

We need places like that now more than ever.

As I work to bring the building back to my personal standards, I’ll also be working through what comes next for this 116-year-old stage and its role as a keystone of downtown West Dundee.

I don’t know exactly what the next chapter looks like yet.

But I do know this: I remain as committed as ever to this building, this stage, this town, and the power of live music to bring people together.

The lights aren’t out.

They’re just getting ready to come back up.

See you soon.

Kevin
