The Covina Dancing Club was formed in the summer of 1931 by three Covina women who were looking for an inexpensive place to go ballroom dancing. Initially 55 couples paid $5 to join the club and dances were held at the American Legion Clubhouse in Covina City Park where the couples danced the night away in their black ties and formal evening gowns. The club originally was exclusively for Covina re

sidents but eventually opened its doors to couples, married or not, from the surrounding communities in the East San Gabriel Valley. The club prospered, and to this day it retains its traditions, from the formal attire, to the form of the dance. To reflect the social nature of the club the name was changed to the Covina Dancing and Social Club.
