Congratulations to on a successful fundraiser and for the recognition from the city of Long Beach. We all do things a little bit different and one of those things You DO is building a community and not just rescuing dogs.

It was a mess this morning, I am sure they were busy yesterday, it was hot, and overtime is probably forbidden… I didn’t feel right taking out a few dogs and leaving many to sit in their own filth. Staff would’ve gotten to it but not for hours as there are hundreds of filled kennels.

Sometimes you have to pivot. Do what’s gonna make you feel best. And I left, hours later, knowing that at least there was a clean spot for 48 dogs to sit and lay.

A couple of surprises… One I’ll share is… a dog that I’ve known for quite some time who poops on everything when we go on walks… He had the one of the cleanest cubbies. And now I have a new hope that he is house trained.

I know people don’t wanna think about dog shelters, people don’t want to volunteer, or work there… I know everybody wants to think the best thoughts… pretend there are not dire consequences or horrific solutions… But every single dog requires so much time, effort, resources… Every single day…

A smarter society would figure out how to fix the problem upstream and not just sweep it under the rug downstream and then complain about it and complain about it and complain about it.

ALL GOOD. Just a stressful hot day with compressed challenging dogs and 5 scheduled euthanasias made me feel chest tightness and shortness of breath… but I got checked out. EKG all good.

The bill means a lot to me and my friends… furry and volunteer and advocates… I appreciate everybody who has called or written or argued even one iota. Thank you Social Compassion in Legislation and Asm. Matt Haney

Draco You must ask if you wanna meet him… Currently not enough space in the public facing kennels. Word is: He came in defending the very person that was surrendering him and has been shut down since. This “loyal behavior” requires a KHOA waiver. ***Special permission was given to post as video is not permitted in building 4 typically.

Greta she and her running buddy Digby were two of the skinniest dogs I’ve ever seen in my life when they came in. Now she has a cold.
