Meet John Lakin, recipient of the Kevin L. Garnett INFLUENCE Award at this year!

In a constantly growing and changing music industry there are two things that continue to ring true, authenticity and sincerity. By virtue of these two penetrating qualities John Lakin, leader of John Lakin and Band of Worshippers, has been hailed as a prolific songwriter, praise and worship leader and psalmist. Lakin has been a consistent, yet underlying name in the Gospel industry for over 20 years, no small feat for an artist under 35. His songs have been recorded by national Gospel recording artists including Ricky Dillard, Bruce Parham and others. His original song “God is Great” also made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Gospel Charts. His song “Created to Worship”, the title track of his sophomore album, has been engrafted by many churches and gospel music fans as a worship anthem. Lakin’s exceptional ability to translate the shared experience of a true worshipper of God into lyrics allows his music to connect with believers from various backgrounds and age groups. As an artist, his goal is to inspire young people to do what they see him do, to encourage them to use their gifts for the Lord and to make an impact on others.

John Lakin was born in the small town of Hopkins, SC, to a musical and spiritual family. Fathered by an organist and pastor and mothered by a gifted singer he has been around music and ministry all his life. “It surprises me that people like my music,” John shares. “I’m a country boy doing what I love to do and so when people embrace it... it’s humbling because people don’t have to like what you do. It’s such a blessing that God has given me a style that can minister worship and healing to people’s lives and to see it have that affect on people’s lives is crazy.” Lakin has released two albums to date on which he has credits for both writing and production; “Expression of Worship…Live” (2005) and “Created to Worship” (2011).

John Lakin and Band of Worshippers (B.O.W.) began as a group targeted to other youth; however, their vocal ability and spiritual sincerity appeals to young and mature audiences. B.O.W. is a group of vocal powerhouses with pure harmonies and worshipful passion that has developed over time. The group is founded on the principle that “singing is secondary”, which allows the message relayed through their beautiful expressions (or croons) to not only be heard, but felt. They aim to create an atmosphere for people to encounter God every time they sing. The group has shared the stage with several Gospel greats from Shirley Caesar to Tye Tribbet, John P. Kee, Tasha Cobbs and more. John Lakin and B.O.W. are in anticipation of what God has in store for the next chapter of their ministry.

Meet Jeffrey Lampkin, recipient of the BREAKOUT INSPIRE Award at this year!

Jeffrey Lampkin, a native of Manning, is a man on a mission. He's the praise and worship leader at Grace Cathedral Ministries in Sumter. He can be heard every Sunday from 6 to 10 a.m. on The Big DM 101.3 FM with his Sunday Morning Gospel show, which is currently the No. 1 ranked Sunday morning radio show. He’s the marketing director at Lampkin Law Firm LLC, and in 2018 he appeared on Good Morning America along with Francis Marion University’s YGB Choir twice sharing his passion for God and his music. The choir performed gospel legend John P. Kee’s “My Mind Is Made Up” to an overwhelming response from both the crowd and Roberts herself. She decided to post the video on her page, which resulted in generating over 1 million views in 5 days. To date, it has amassed more than 2.9 million views. The viral video is the most viewed video posted by Roberts on any of her social media platforms.

Lampkin grew up outside of Manning, singing and praising God at William's Chapel. Lampkin is internationally known. His love of music has taken him around the world, most recently to Chicago where he and his Francis Marion University YGB Gospel Choir performed for a national audience. Lampkin isn't shy, and his outgoing personality and musical abilities took him to Hollywood during Season 7 of American Idol which led to his award-winning television show on WACH television in Columbia where he hosted The Jeffrey Lampkin Show, the No. 1 television show on Sunday morning for six seasons.

And, now, he's added restaurateur to his lengthening list of accomplishments. Lampkin is bringing his talents from behind the microphone and into the kitchen with his new restaurant. “We’ll be serving food for the soul,” Lampkin said. “Our food will be seasoned with love.” Jeffrey Lampkin’s Country Boy Kitchen, which is located at 5642 Broad Street will be serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch, will be a mix of modern with old-fashioned goodness.

Although he lives in Blythewood now with his wife, Columbia attorney Harriet Huell Lampkin, Lampkin still refers to Manning as home.
