Inspiring creativity through hands-on art workshops for kids & adults. Welcome to The Artistic Edge! My name is Kayla Coulter, and I’m so glad you’re here. I believe that everyone has untapped creativity within them, waiting to be discovered and nurtured. It’s my mission to help you unlock it.

Art has always been my sanctuary, my passion, and my voice. From the moment I could pick up a pencil,

I’ve been drawn to creating. Over the years, I’ve explored many mediums—from vibrant acrylic paints to the delicate nuances of charcoal and graphite. While I love experimenting, these two have become my primary tools for expression, helping me turn raw emotions into tangible art.

There was a time in my life when art truly saved me. In moments of uncertainty and hardship, creating gave me a way to process, heal, and grow. That’s why I started The Artistic Edge: to provide a space where others can experience the transformative power of art and discover their own creative voices.

Light vs. Paint Color

A little PSA for any artist who works with color: lighting changes EVERYTHING!

In my studio, these colors looked rich, deep, and exactly how I wanted them. Then I brought the painting into natural light… gray. Flat. Completely different.

It’s a good reminder to check your work in different lighting before you get too far into a piece. Step back. Change your perspective. Walk away and come back with fresh eyes.

Because can you imagine putting another 10+ hours into a painting, only to finally see it in natural light and realize your colors need to be reworked? Painful.

Take your time. Look at your work from every angle. And sometimes, quite literally, shed a different light on it.
