"Saw The Last Flapper by William Luce at The Bit theatre directed by Gail Cannata. It features an incredible performance by Jennifer Reeves Wilson, who fully embodies and grounds this very complex character. Bravo. It has a very short run, so see it now."

Last night I saw a wonderful production. A script from the writer of "The Belle of Amherst", an actress I stand in awe of, and Gail Cannata, a director passionate about a passionate woman who never got truly fulfilled--Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald.
It's at the Bit Theatre in Aurora.
The show is humorous, hopeful, and heartbreaking."
Mike S.

Look here, jellybean...One night, a real hotsy-totsy tomato named Zelda - THE Zelda Fitzgerald (Heidi Swarthout), the genuine article - found herself in a juice joint. She just wanted a little giggle water and some company, but the barman (Mike Speller) was a real wet blanket, and he told her to pipe down and scram, beat it, you get the picture. Did she listen? Nah, sugar, that doll was keen on sharing her most nifty stories about growing up a belle in Alabama, dancing in fountains as a flapper, being the cat's pajamas as a writer, illustrator, dancer, and more, her dalliances with doctors and institutions, and of course about her head over heels love affair with F. Scott Fitzgerald, or Goofo, as she affectionately called him. It's a memory play, see, pumpkin? Now, get a wiggle on and head over to bitimprov.org and get yourself tickets to ZELDA AT THE OASIS by P.H. Lin - Presented at THE BIT THEATER in Aurora, directed by the big cheese, Gail Cannata. They even have a speakeasy onsite, so you can order up a little old Gin Fizz or Tom Collins to sip on as you drift away into 1920's fantasy-reality with Zelda and her stories. Only 4 performances March 7-15! First one to get their tickets is the bee's knees! ✨

Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt-stricken when this nearly breaks Ida’s heart.

Auditions are coming soon! Are you scheduled?

iambe theatre ensemble:

We are thrilled to announce auditions for the debut production of Wake Up, Mrs. Moore, a dramedy by Julie Marie Myatt, running April 12 - 28 at Elgin Art Showcase, Elgin, IL, directed by Gail Cannata. This is an exciting opportunity for dynamic actors of all ages, many of whom portray characters whose ages change throughout the play, as the story spans over four decades.

It’s 1970 and young feminist Virginia Moore is ready to change the world. Marching against the Vietnam War and for equal rights for women, Virginia is going to make a better world for all. After being struck in the head after a rally, she lapses into a coma for 40 years. Her husband Glenn and sister Alma visit her bedside to share the events and years of the American life she is missing, while Virginia travels the globe and experiences the feminist dream in her mind. When Virginia miraculously awakes, what has changed in America? Is this the future Virginia imagined, and who continues to sleep?

This is a non-equity production.

Actors will receive a flat $100 stipend.

Cast breakdown:

Virginia Moore: this role has been cast.

Glenn Moore: 50’s-60’s; male identifying; lawyer; kind, loving, self-sacrificing husband to Virginia; patient, if not very adventurous.
