The hardest part about becoming a better artist is continuing when the progress feels invisible.

Some drawings flow. Others require erasing, restarting and working through the frustration. But every sketch whether it’s realism, black-and-grey, Neo-Traditional or something outside my comfort zone is helping build the artist and tattooer I’m becoming.

Sketchbook Sessions Episode 7 | The Warrior Queen Sekhmet

Every custom tattoo starts long before the machine ever touches skin.

This week’s sketch I’m sketching Sekhmet, the Egyptian lioness goddess known for strength, protection, courage, and healing. I enjoy taking inspiration from Egyptian mythology and reimagining it into custom black and grey tattoo designs that tell a story.

The sketchbook sessions are where many of my future tattoos begin. Every line helps me refine my style, develop original concepts, and create artwork that’s designed specifically for the person wearing it.

Asking, “How much is a tattoo?” is like asking, “How much is a bag of groceries?”

Before I can answer, I need to know what we’re putting in the bag.

Tattoo pricing isn’t one-size-fits-all because tattoos aren’t one-size-fits-all.

Two pieces can cover the same area but require completely different amounts of design, preparation, detail and tattooing. A simple forearm tattoo and a detailed black & grey forearm piece are not the same project just because they’re going in the same location. Size matters, but so do the placement, style, level of detail, complexity, existing tattoos and estimated time involved.

That’s why I don’t throw out random prices through DMs without understanding the full project. I want to give you realistic expectations. Not a number that changes once I finally see what you’re asking for.

A tattoo can start with one idea and turn into something much bigger. That’s where my head has been lately. I want to create more large-scale black & grey projects. Pieces that aren’t rushed, have room to develop, and actually work with the body instead of just filling a space.
