New Workshop Announced!

We had such great success with the three part beginner watercolor workshop at Moda Studio at the Picture Framing Warehouse in Fairfield, NJ, that I'm now doing a class focused on painting flowers!

Last October, I was part of a watercolor workshop led by Grahame Booth. We painted in Southern Portugal, or rather, we attempted to be doing plein air painting throughout the week. The rains arrived around the time that we did, and plein air painting was done in bits and pieces. Nonetheless, I was able to complete a few landscapes, including this one looking out over the city of Lagos.

Travel workshops are a special gift that you give to yourself… the opportunity to experience a new part of the world with other talented painters.

I’ll be leading two out-of-town workshops this year… in the French Alps in June (with French Escapade… currently sold out but I plan on doing more in the future) and in Southern Vermont in July (at The Landgrove Inn).

Diving into uncharted creative territories! 🖌️✨ While it’s tempting to reach for familiar Arches or Fabriano paper, I it’s exciting to go beyond traditional surfaces. 🌿🖼️ Using a canvas product with my watercolors opened up a whole new realm of expression. 🌄🎨 The outcome? A moodier landscape adorned with rich wash transitions and captivating textures that add depth to my art.
 
Surprisingly, even on canvas, I managed the interplay of lights and darks by lifting and diluting pigments. 💡🎨 Switching up my painting surface truly unlocked a whole new dimension of creativity! 🌈✨

Embracing unexpected surprises today! 📸💻 Usually, it’s my granddaughters’ sweet memories that pop up on my computer screen, but today, it was a blast from the artistic past – a demo piece I painted. 🖌️🖼️ I was exploring the art of painting flowers without a vase, playing with negative painting to craft intriguing shapes and playing with light and shadow. 🌼🎨🌿 The best part? I call it my “iced tea” palette - warm, inviting colors that make the painting truly special. This unexpected throwback brought back such a beautiful memory encapsulating art, creativity, and joy in a single frame! 🖼️✨

How lucky I am to be in the Western Algarve region of Portugal this week psinting with tge eonderful Grahame Booth and lots of my new friends, mostly from the UK. If only the weather weren’t so rainy, i’d say it was perfect.

I am pleased to say that this painting won 1st place for acrylic paintings in the Essex County Senior Show (professional division). And in two weeks the painting goes off to Trenton to compete at the state level show! Good luck to my painting…I hope she does well!
