Join MOWA tomorrow for a lecture with Pachia Lucy Vang on paj ntaub (“flower cloth”), the vibrant textile tradition at the heart of HMong cultural expression. More than decoration, these intricate embroidered and appliquéd designs carry stories of ancestry, place, resilience, and survival. For generations, paj ntaub has preserved cultural memory through periods of upheaval—from the Secret War in Laos to refugee camps and resettlement in the United States. Vang will share how this enduring art form continues to connect HMong communities to their history while inspiring new generations of artists, makers, and culture bearers.

The American Landscape: Beyond the Horizon brings historic and contemporary artworks into dialogue, revealing changing perspectives on nature, community, industry, and identity.

Spanning over two centuries of artistic interpretations of Wisconsin’s landscape—from Old World European paintings to contemporary works addressing the environmental consequences of human activity—this exhibition invites visitors to reconsider how the land shapes our regional identity and the broader American experience.

Experience the exhibition and join the conversation about place, identity, and our evolving connection to the natural world.

Plan your visit at wisconsinart.org today–we can't wait to see you.

The American Landscape: Beyond the Horizon is sponsored by Travel Wisconsin.
