🎶 A Rising Star in Our Midst: Kettle Moraine Symphony Showcases John Zempel's Original Composition 🎶

🎼 From high school freshman to world-premiere composer! Don't miss the opportunity to hear American Festival Overture, an original composition by local teen musician John Zempel, debuting this September with the Kettle Moraine Symphony. Read more below.

John Zempel is a passionate composer who especially enjoys writing programmatic music for full orchestra. Coming from a musical family, John has been surrounded by music his entire life, and finds inspiration in the compositions of his uncle, Daniel Van Gelderen. Currently a high school freshman at Falls Baptist Academy, John receives training in violin, viola, and piano through the Falls Baptist Music School in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He is also actively involved in his local church, where he regularly uses his musical talents to serve the congregation and participate in ministry work. He studies composition under William Hawkins of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and has participated in masterclasses with distinguished composers Don Freund and Benjamin Taylor. Outside of composing, John coaches young violin students, studies major classical scores, and creates event videos. He is recognized for his dedication to helping others and his commitment to excellence.

Program Notes: "American Festival Overture"
"American Festival Overture" was written to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and express gratitude for the nation. While inspired by the sweeping landscapes and traditions of composers like Aaron Copland, John captures a distinct, uniquely American voice in this vibrant overture.
