In the first two decades of the 20th century, Barney Oldfield, considered America’s first major driving star, won multiple race events at the track. Through two World Wars, the track survived and thrived with Indy cars leading the way. In the past 50 years, multiple generations of drivers with legendary names such as Andretti and Unser have visited victory lane at the oval.
