“Shaman” is not a word I associate with myself or my art, but this’ll have to do for the prompt. What I do like about the concept is how mental health is intertwined with shamanism and other spiritual practices through time and across cultures.

I have a lot of ways to commune or communicate with whatever connection I am fostering with existence. One way is through ecstatic dancing.

I’m glad I recognize catnip now from foraging. Because Rollie loves it and apparently there’s some growing outside my friend’s place.

Yet another visually inadequate and ultimately futile attempt at portraying some minuscule aspect of what I recognize as “god” (for lack of a better/more neutral word/less suggestive word).

I think I’d have to create some kind of 3-dimensional rendering of it for it to be slightly more accurate but even then it wouldn’t suffice. Because it’s not just sensory and extra sensory, it’s like. Idk. A knowing. A resonance? Too many countless and shifting layers.

Idk I’m just an artist, don’t take my word for it, no sense in playing telephone about this sort of thing. You either get it or you don’t.

This is a try-not-hard piece about my anxiety about the pulsatile tinnitus I’ve been dealing with for weeks. The good news is I think the Flonase is working? I still have an MRI scheduled because f**k it, the state is gonna put my worries at ease because they should be doing that anyway.

My family frustrates me. That’s the simplified, nice way of saying it.

I don’t know what compelled me to whip out this classic album from 8th grade lmao but I did and it put me back in the house my mom lived in on 73rd street.

The radio station I listened to had a nightly “what’s new at 9” segment where they’d play something from a lesser known artist to see if it would be a hit. I had gotten into the habit of recording it on modified cassette tapes because they would often play bangers I would never hear again (until torrenting but that wasn’t a thing yet).

It’s a cliche song nowadays (and I can’t unhear the Goofy version of Bring Me To Life lmao) but MAN when I heard Evanescence I wanted that cd SO bad. I was excited to get it. I felt so cool. I wanted to be goth looking like the singer on the cover 😆 but I had zero freedom to modify my appearance so I settled for dark fantasies. In particular I imagined my characters (a fantasy storyline I was writing but mostly daydreaming about) to different songs.

I also started to identify with a lot of the lyrics and it was one of my first outlets for my depressive and lonely teenage angst (esp regarding my family’s drama). I remember feeling so taboo yet intrigued listening to the song Tourniquet, particularly the last line.

Ah me. Pre-teen me. What a whole thing. The beginning to going some really bad places in my head.

I’m much happier now tho. haha
