Ellen Bruex is an interdisciplinary visual artist, muralist, and art educator based in Wenatchee. Her work explores the intersections of public space, play, community, and everyday visual experience.

The paintings in this exhibition are inspired by her recent interactive public mural, located in along Orondo Ave. between Pybus and Wenatchee Ave. Drawing from the mural’s colors and imagery, these works bring fragments of the larger public artwork into a smaller scale — a piece of downtown that can come home with you.

See you there!

Due to the wildfire smoke impacting the valley, the City of Wenatchee and I have made the decision to postpone the Orondo Avenue mural celebration since this is an outdoor event. The safety of our community is the priority. Stay tuned for rescheduling information.

You can still attend indoor First Friday events. I’ll have 3 small pieces at Artworx in the Aquatic August show, and at Ground Control in their Jimothy themed show!

I interrupt my normal Orondo Avenue mural updates to share this:

Something bigger and longer lasting than a banner. A giant rainbow staircase at the Sunnyslope Church in Wenatchee. I painted this last weekend with a group from the church as they prepared a celebration to ring in Pride month. In a year when both the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee have decided to remove Pride banners. In Wenatchee, where the banners are replaced by TPUSA banners. In a city where the most attended church actively and aggressively marginalizes marginalized groups.
And yet, there is love here. There is community here. There is a brighter, more colorful future for everyone, especially, always, our q***r friends and family.

As Audre Lorde said, and I believe it has never been more true: “Tomorrow belongs to those of us who conceive of it as belonging to everyone; who lend the best of ourselves to it, and with joy.”
