Martelle Dance Academy is the only locally owned and operated studio in Wellsville. We teach all levels from recreational through pre-professional as well as all abilities. As a modern based school we offer classes in modern/contemporary, ballet, tap, jazz fusion (hip hop & jazz), acro dance (tumbling) and baby & me. We also have our award

winning dance competition team that includes the Arc Angels with the Arc of Allegany & Steuben Counties. We provide professional level dance education in a safe and fun environment. Owner and Director Kate Martelle is an international award winning film choreographer with awards from New York International Film Festival for Best Dance Choreography (2 time winner) and Cannes World Film Festival for Best Dance Film. She has been teaching and performing for almost 30 years. Miss Kate has a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia’s Dept. of Theatre & Dance as well a certificate in Performing Arts from NYU/Tisch School of the Arts. She also has a Certificate in Choreography from Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Her other dance certifications are; Acrobatic Arts Module One Certified Teacher, Acrobatic Arts Preschool Certified Teacher, Luigi Jazz Technique Certified Teacher for Levels 1 & 2, Youth Protection Advocates in Dance Certified Teacher, Rhythm Works Integrative Dance Certified Teacher, SugarFoot Therapy Certified Teacher, CLI Studios Certified Teacher and Danscend Mental Wellness Certified Dance Educator. Miss Kate has also trained with the Paul Taylor American Modern Dance Company through residency. Kate also continuously takes class with the best in business such as Antboogie (the movie "Honey" toured with Madonna and Rihanna), Stephanie Klemons (Hamilton Associate Choreogragher), Josh Bergasse (SMASH choreographer), Al Blackstone(Emmy winning Choreographer), Dom Kelley (DWTS, Masked Singer), Parker Esse (award winning Choreographer, Broadway) and many more. Along with being a professional choreographer outside of the studio Miss Kate has been the Color Guard Director for Wellsville Central School. She is also currently the choreographer for the school musical at Wellsville since 2019.

Yesterday Miss Kate spent the morning at Genesee Valley School for their Activity Day! I love getting the chance to spend time with these kids and teach them a fun dance. I worked with 4 grade levels and we had a blast! Most of them haven’t heard the Koala song which made it more exciting. Even the boys loved it! I had boys begging to do the dance one more time before they left!
Last night after dress rehearsal I was sent a video of the kids outside during the afternoon and the teacher had the DJ play the Koala song and they just waited to see. And every single class started doing the dance they learned in the morning!! I only spent 30 minutes with each class! The impact you have on the world is immeasurable. I sat there with tears in my eyes! Enjoy this compilation of each class and stay to see the outside video at the end. ❤️

Wings are notoriously difficult because they are an advanced airborne step requiring complex mechanics. You have to push outward, brush inward, and land while airborne—all in a fraction of a second.
