📣📣📣 NEWS RELEASE: Cleveland Avenue Construction Project to kick off May 26 📣📣📣
Preliminary work for the Cleveland Avenue Construction Project gets underway early next week, with Phase 1 of the project slated to start late in the week or early the following week.
Starting Tuesday, May 26, crews from Coulson Excavating — which is the project’s contractor — will be locating and working on waterlines on 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th Streets. This preliminary work is expected to take about a week and isn’t expected to require the closure of any roads. However, motorists and cyclists should exercise caution when moving past active work areas.
Phase 1 of the project kicks off as early as Thursday, May 28, starting on 5th Street. This work includes the installation of new storm drainage infrastructure as well as streetscape improvements between Cleveland and Kennedy Avenues.
While this stretch of 5th Street will be an active construction zone during this work, it is expected to stay open to local traffic. Active work on 5th Street is expected to take until at least mid-July.
Construction on Cleveland Avenue will start on the south side of the road as early as June 3. Work there begins with the removal of trees and vegetation before moving on to the removal of existing asphalt and concrete.
Although Cleveland Avenue will primarily remain open during the project, short-term closures may occur, access to side streets will be limited, and the traffic pattern through Downtown Wellington will change as the project progresses.
Work on Cleveland Avenue, which includes Phases 2 and 3 of the project, is expected to take until late fall/early winter. New and additional information regarding active work on Cleveland Avenue will be released to the public as it becomes available.
Additionally, the schedule for the duration of the project is dependent on weather and other external factors. Any significant changes to the schedule will be announced to the public.
More information about the project is available on the project webpage at https://wellingtoncolorado.gov/608/Cleveland-Ave-Construction-Project.
