Deborah T. Colter

Deborah T. Colter is interested in the pure pleasure of form, line, and color. She describes her work as a continual evolutionary journey of discovery. She works with a variety of mixed mediums, collage and acrylic polymer paints building multiple layers on the surface until the piece begins to lead her to its own conclusion. Deborah holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. She is widely represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and overseas. Deborah lives and works on the island of Martha’s Vineyard.
Deborah had the pleasure of working with the 2015 HGTV Dream Home designers to place three of her pieces in the project that was built on Martha’s Vineyard the Fall of that year.
Working side by side with corporate art consultants and galleries Deborah has been delighted to be included some powerful art collections including Adobe Systems, Biogen Corporation, J.W.Marriott, Cisco Systems, & Conner Strong Companies, among others.
Growing up with a cartoonist/architect father who had a ceaseless work ethic, his devotion to his craft strongly influenced Deborah’s own approach to her painting practice.

Join us at our WELLFLEET location to view and perhaps add to your collection one of Colter’s beautifully crafted painted collage pieces.
As always, we look forward to your next visit and seeing you soon!

“CONFLUENCE”
This collection is named for the confluence, or coming together, of friends, ideas and inspiration. When my friend and fellow jeweler, Tamar Collins, needed a jewelry bench built, she asked my husband, a woodworker, to build it for her. Unbeknownst to me, in return he asked her to design a piece of jewelry for me. When the bench was finished, I was very surprised to be presented with the most gorgeous, hand made 22 karat gold necklace. She had made each piece by dripping the gold into water, which created amazing cup shapes, like moments frozen in time. The design was just too great not to share – so together we worked on the design to come up with our Confluence collection, reproducible in 18 karat gold and cobalt chrome. Each beautiful cup holds a pearl or diamond in the most precious way, and always reminds me of how lucky I am to have such talented and generous friends.

These little beauties are a staple of many of our clients and Staff. We will have a nice selection of this collection and so much more at the Trunk Show and Redesign event!
Don’t forget… you can use your own stones and your gold as well to create this look or something unique just for you.

Clayton Lewis is an artist from Michigan who studied painting at the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Massachusetts (BFA 1982) and at Parsons School of Design in New York (MFA 1985). His favorite subjects include seaside and forest landscapes, and urban scenes.
From 2001-2023, Lewis was Curator of Graphic Materials at the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan where he assisted scholars, did research and produced exhibits related to American history and visual culture. His areas of particular expertise include caricature, the representation of historic events, and early American photography.
For me, the joy in painting is as much about process as result. Most of my paintings are landscapes and cityscapes. The subjects of New York and Detroit have been favorites for a long time as these cities are both particularly expressive of our societal values and visually compelling.

As always, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Allison Hudson

I am a contemporary painter working primarily in pastels. Pastels are my medium of choice because of their vibrancy, plus the variety of results pastels afford – blended, sharp, watery, solid, to name a few. I also enjoy the application (at times) of drawing and draftsmanship skills while working with pastels.

I work on a range of subjects, as it is a joy to discover the worlds within a still life as much as it is to dive into a breathtaking landscape. What draws me to any given subject is an appreciation for the moment in time, and a hope that it may be preserved.

Painting allows for direct participation with the beautiful light, color, shape and design observable in views both grand and intimate: I love painting because it makes me feel that I am a part of something larger than myself. I am also inspired by the experience of discovery that painting allows.

I received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts & English from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1999. After 18 years of working in media planning and sales in the advertising industry in New York City, I began to re-visit the arts and studied applied arts as well as architectural and design history at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, NY. I also attended a short but intensive facilitated studio practice at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO in the Winter of 2022 which provided further foundation for a career as an artist.
My husband and I and our rescue dog Lucky live between Snowmass, CO and Nantucket, MA, with stops in between to visit family and friends.

We are thrilled to represent Allison in our WELLFLEET location at 25 Commercial St. now celebrating our 55th season!
Please join us and see for yourself just how beautiful these original masterfully drawn pastels are.
Stop in soon..Because just like the Wellfleet Oysters they are modeled after, they won’t hang around for long.
