Davis Museum at Wellesley College The Davis Museum is located on the Wellesley College campus in Wellesley, MA.

We are free and open to the public, Tuesdays through Sundays, during the fall and spring semesters. Located on the beautiful 500-acre campus of Wellesley College—a stone's throw from Boston—the Davis Museum houses collections of artwork from around the globe ranging from ancient Mediterranean sculpture and pottery to contemporary art. Free and open to the public, the Davis Museum is a gem of MetroWest that no visitor to the area should miss.

Missed Daniela Rivera’s new opera—“Hacia Cuando (To When)”—at MASS MoCA this past weekend? Have no fear! You can hear more at the Davis this Thursday with Rivera’s close collaborator, Javier Bustos! 🎶

Argentinian artist Javier Bustos brings “Breath,” a performance on an experimental electronic bandoneon he built and designed himself. As he works the bellows, the airflow shapes the sound and the lighting in the room. You may even notice it changing your own breathing. 🌬️

The bandoneon began in Germany and was reinterpreted in Argentina through tango. In “Breath” it becomes “the reinterpretation of a reinterpretation.”

Presented with the Spanish, Music, and Latin American Studies Departments, the Wellesley Art Department, and the Davis Museum. Free and open to all. Link in bio for details.

“Excavating Antioch: The Archaeology of an Ancient City” — Curatorial Tour 🏛️📜

Step back in time to explore the ancient city of (modern Antakya, Türkiye) and unearth the complex histories behind its excavation.

Join Nicole Berlin, Associate Curator of Collections, for a tour examining daily life in antiquity through artifacts and archival materials—while unpacking the colonial-era 1930s excavations that dispersed Antioch’s material culture worldwide. Together, we’ll consider how histories are constructed and how museums can steward cultural heritage more responsibly today.

The Davis has lent the Met a knockout painting for what NYT’s Holland Cotter calls a knockout show. Don’t miss Wellesley’s painting by Lee Krasner in “Krasner and Po***ck: Past Continuous.” The exhibition is the first major New York presentation devoted to either artist in more than 20 years. Featuring over 120 works, it is the first exhibition to look at the full arc of their careers together. 🏛️✨

Ria Brodell: A Day in Residency 🎨✨

Join us on Tuesday, October 6 for a special day of events with Ria Brodell—a q***r and trans artist, educator, and author whose work explores gender, sexuality, and identity through history, science, and religion.

Brodell’s celebrated series “Butch Heroes” recover and celebrate q***r figures throughout history, rendering them in the style of subverted Catholic holy cards. The paintings are reproduced in two books, most recently 2025’s “More Butch Heroes” (MIT Press). Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with their work, tour the gallery, and hear them speak!

Looking back in thanks to Friday’s sunnier skies and our opening symposium — “Archeology, Labor, and Knowledge Production” — presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Excavating Antioch: The Archaeology of an Ancient City.”

The program welcomed students, scholars, and colleagues from across the globe to share leading research into the ancient city of and the historic and ethical frameworks of the field of archeology itself. The day was filled with panels, lectures, exhibition tours, and even a 3D-printing workshop led by our Wellesley College colleague Johanna Okerlund and Davis Museum Student Assistant Siena Pietraszak ’29 (last image). 🏺⚒️

Thank you to all who joined us and made this excellent day of scholarship possible!
