Webster Community Celebrates 250!
What a wonderful celebration of community and the best of America.
School bands, a barbershop quartet, a wonderful hammered dulcimer group called Striking Strings, community groups promoting the environment, Gold Star Mothers, library events, local history, veterans, story time, gardening, art activities, and lots of other things. There were games and food to enjoy, people of all ages, sunny skies, pleasant temperatures and lots of beautiful flowers to enjoy in the arboretum. Webster Art Club offered folks the opportunity to create a flower for our peace sign. Folks from 2-80 participated!

Field Trip and Lunch
Our last friend trip of the season was to the new Anna Kern Fine Art & Studio at 83 South Main Street in Canandaigua. Open just over a month, this delightful space is filled with oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings created by Kern over a twenty-two year span. From florals to abstracts (and even some animal portraits), this studio reflects the hard work and dynamic personality of the artist, herself, who welcomed our club members with a joy and warmth everyone loved. One is welcome to just sit and enjoy the artwork in each room.
A native of Long Island, Kern spent many years in Florida participating in the art scenes in Ocala and Pensacola. She just LOVES painting, and her energy is inspiring. After listening to her share her process for her abstract pieces, many of us were ready to get our paints out and start working! We wish Anna Kern much success in her new venture as gallery owner.
We then enjoyed the work of the Ontario County Arts Council in a small display at the Wood Library in Canandaigua. Work reflected a variety of media and themes, like any community group should!
Afterwards, we had a delicious lunch at Nolan’s Restaurant, with lobster rolls being the dominant order! What a great way to celebrate the summer season, the friendliness of Webster Art Club and a much anticipated two month month hiatus. Keep creating!

WAC Picnic/Silent Auction
Many thanks to all who participated in our annual picnic! What a great time full of good food, friendly conversation and generous donations to support fundraising for our annual WAC Awards given to local high school art students. Grateful thanks to our picnic organizers, Jeanne and Corrine, for their service and attention to detail, and to the Webster Rec Center for use of the Webster Arboretum for this event.

A Productive Morning
Wednesday mornings throughout our season (ends in June), members of WAC meet at the Rec Center to work on their own drawings, paintings, etc. This week, Christy worked on drawing eyes; Kate worked on watercolor studies; Carolyn worked on an illustration featuring her favorite squirrel; Jeanne worked on painting shells; Corrine worked drawing natural items, including a nest using a Micron pen; and Mary worked on painting with odd objects like seed pods, bubble wrap, cardboard and corks. Everyone was busy!

Another fun evening of Creative Canvas painting was held on May 20 through Webster Parks and Recreation. Thank you to Carol and Beth, members of the Webster Art Club, for their coordination of the event and step-by-step instruction!

May Meeting: A Fine Evening with Bill Finewood
“His work is so varied, so beautiful, and he’s good at everything,” said one of our members after seeing painter and illustrator, Bill Finewood’s, presentation. Another member said she liked his detailed and super-realistic style, but especially enjoyed seeing Finewood’s early 3-dimensional paper relief illustrations. Still another audience member was transformed back to Nyhavn, Copenhagen, upon seeing Finewood’s finely detailed painting of the city’s waterfront filled with 17th century architecture and historic ships.
Yes, Bill Finewood’s work is varied, highly detailed and beautifully rendered, with inviting compositions reflecting local landscapes, architecture and canal scenes, as well as paintings of animals and birds he sees here and in Montana where he spends time. His work serves as a reminder of how inspiring our own local area is for Finewood and other artists who interpret the area’s beauty in their artwork.
