Sooooooo! I'll be directing THE TEMPEST this fall!

It's been 4 years since I've sat in the directors seat. Creatively I've been working on other projects teaching and reviewing theatre but I took a break from the theatre scene. I must confess I felt as if I was doing theatre for others and not myself. I've missed the creative process so much! Working collaboratively with artists to create a theatrical experience. The theatre is my home and this fall I am so excited and scared all at the same time, but now I can say I'M READY!

One thing I can say is that Houston doesn't need another theatre company and that's not what we are doing. I've been working on a collective called the Creative Collab, which is an artist collaborative bringing artists from all mediums together to collaborate, connect and create artistic experiences throughout the city and beyond. THE TEMPEST is our 2nd project in Houston. We had the pleasure to collaborate with Elijah Alhadji Gibson and his Houston choreographic debut of his thought provoking concert titled THE BLACK CARD.

Now you say THE TEMPEST! Shakespeare! Been there done that! But not Bryan-Keyth Wilson's adaptation! This story takes place in Port-au-Prince, Haiti with a cast of that would make Jessie Jackson's Rainbow Coalition look like a Lilly white Sunday brunch in the Heights! Using authentic Haitian influences; music, dancing, and clothing this production of THE TEMPEST is going to be a treat! The creative process has begun and now we are looking for actors of all ages! Formal audition notice will go out Friday! Inbox me for more information!

My latest review on The Ensemble Theatre's WHAT I LEARNED IN PARIS.

When a play weaves in watershed moments in American history, there's sure to be connectivity and enlightenment. Before Obama and the Change movement, there was Maynard Jackson. Jackson was the first black mayor of Atlanta. He would go on to serve three terms, during which he made huge strides in imp…
