What a wonderful day of Dress Rehearsals for the annual Summer show.
It is difficult to put into words how it feels to have been a part of such special & beautiful Summer recitals literally for my entire life. It was our family’s life, the only one I have ever known. I only missed one recital when I was teaching at the Virginia School of the Arts back in 2007. For 56 years, there has always been a Summer recital. Always unique, always beautiful, impactful, meaningful, and connected by wonderful families who love their children & who deserve to have these special recitals at each phase of their young lives.
I cant help but reflect now on all of the years of shows, whether it be my childhood, my professional career, the years shared leading the school with my sister and our Mom before she passed, and now 7 years after her passing, here we are, once again, gathering a community of shared values in kindness, art, & connection. To say I am grateful doesn’t seem a strong enough word. Her influence is firmly existing in an ephemeral art form.

Your beautiful children, your time, your kindness… everything. You all make my life feel so very blessed.
