Blue Ridge Basketry Hi, my name is Nancy Fitzpatrick, and I’ve started a new business.

After spending the summer of ‘25 learning to weave Appalachian rib baskets, I’ve gotten hooked on making them….but now I need to sell them, I don’t have room in my house for them!

So, it has crossed my mind that these baby gender reveal parties are quite the thing nowadays!
I got to thinking- how can I incorporate my baskets into that fun occasion?
And here’s what I came up with….and I would LOVE some feedback on whether or not my idea is a good one.
I make a pink and blue basket, with lots of cute beads and furry yarn. Then I put a small stuffed bear, with pink AND blue ribbons around its neck ( the person doing the revealing will know the gender and can tie the appropriate color ribbon on it).
I wrap the bear in a swaddling blanket, put a note on his front “ unwrap me to reveal the baby’s gender”, and voila! The baby’s mama can use the basket for storing mittens, or baby wipes, or whatever!
What do y’all think?

Weaverville Art Safari has a beautiful glass-fronted cabinet that the Visitor Center allows us to fill with pieces of art from several artists entered in the fall Safari. 3 of us spent the morning organizing the art so that each one could be seen and compliments the other ones around it.
My basket is on the 3rd shelf.
I am so silly proud 🤪
