Put on your dancing shoes and join us at the Weaverville Community Center for an evening of music, movement, and fun on the dance floor! Whether you're new to the Hustle or already know your way around the floor, this monthly dance is a great way to learn, practice, and enjoy dancing with friends and neighbors.
Wayne Tipton will lead a beginner-friendly lesson from 5:00–5:30 p.m., followed by open dancing from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and you don't need to come with a partner.

Come for the lesson, stay for the dancing, and spend your Sunday evening moving to the music! For more information, email [email protected].

New Season, New Session

Register with Deb Davis at: [email protected] for the Absolute Beginner class on Thursdays at 9am. The class is very full and requires preregistration to attend. Walk-ins not permitted.

There will be dates when Early Voting is taking place that the Monday evening classes will not be held. Please keep an eye on our website, social media, the paper calendar and newsletter for updates on specific dates. Thursday classes will be held at the Town Hall Community Room temporarily during that time.

During the early days of the American Revolution, Patriots gathered under the Liberty Tree to voice opposition to Britain. Today the Liberty Tree reprsetns the enduring principles of community action and shared civic responsibility.

Admission is free. Donations are welcome.

Join us for Mountain Strong: Continuing the Conversation on Thursday, August 27, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. for a free screening of Ideas to Impact: 45 Years of the Martin Luther King Jr. Association. The documentary explores how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision inspired decades of community leadership, service, and civic engagement in Western North Carolina, followed by a live Q&A with the filmmakers. Admission is free and open to the public, registration is encouraged.

Perhaps you’ve heard the buzz about the benefits and importance of growing native plants in the garden? If you’re interested in learning more, please join us for a presentation by horticulturist and landscape designer Emily Driskill during which she’ll provide background information on native plants and ecology, offer some tips on how to incorporate native plants into the garden, and provide a short list of her favorite species for inspiration.

Emily learned her bachelor’s degree with concentrations in botany and sustainable agriculture from The Evergreen State College, and she has worked in production horticulture since 2016 when she was hired as nursery manager at Carolina Native Nursery. Then in 2021, in response to the ever-increasing regional need for native plant material for landscape installations, she founded Tanager Plants, a “wholesale to the trade” nursery. She is interested in plant propagation, and she grows as many species as possible from seed in order to promote genetic biodiversity. She also conducts retail sales at a number of local events every spring and fall, including at the Asheville Botanical Garden native plant sales, at the North Carolina Arboretum plant sales, at the Growing in the Mountains Spring Plant Sale, and at the Fall Native Plant Fest in Mars Hill, which is held at her own Tanager Plants location.
