A little slice of Onewheel history right here!

This was the world's first Onewheel Freestyle Competition, held at the world's first Onewheel Festival. Back then, nobody really knew what a freestyle contest would look like. Riders showed up (the McCosker’s even made it their honeymoon), got creative, and helped build a format that would influence years of competitions to come.

Just one of the many "firsts" that happened at FloatLife Fest over the last 10 years.

We've been digging through the archives and will be sharing more of those moments soon.

How many people watching this owned a Onewheel +??? We bet not many!

At the time the XRs launch seemed modest, but the fact is it changed everything!

Back then, a 4-mile race was considered ridiculous. The climbs were solid, batteries were stretched to their limits, and making it to the finish line wasn't guaranteed.

But for the first time, we saw what was possible. The XR wasn't just a new board, it was a key that unlocked new terrain, bigger rides, and a glimpse of where the sport could go.

Looking back, it wasn't just another race.

It was the moment we realized this thing was going somewhere.

FloatLife Fest was featured in an Associated Press article regarding Old Fort’s comeback / reset after Hurricane Helene. We are proud to call Old Fort and Camp Grier home!
Big things happening for 2026! 🙌🕺🏻🔥🙏💙

The mountain “gateway” town of Old Fort, North Carolina, was well on its way to achieving a major goal: to become a hot spot for mountain biking and all things outdoors.

Big things coming to Swannanoa, in the Asheville area! Only 15-20 minutes from Camp Grier🙌💙🤘🔥

“We call it a bike park, because that’s what people understand,” said Daniel Sapp, the foundation’s chief marketing officer who joined Watkins on a tour of the site last week. “But it’s actually an all-wheels park. It’s all weather and all wheels.”

Much of Swannanoa’s history and what may be a big part of its future can be seen from the top of a slope on the grounds of the former Beacon Manufacturing Co. textile mill on U.S. 70. Hollowed-out buildings just across the highway mark the devastation Tropical Storm Helene brought to the unincorpo...

The rumors are true. Camp Grier is expanding!

For more than seventy years, Camp Grier has been a place where Western North Carolina comes together to grow, heal, and build. What began as a summer camp has evolved into something much bigger, a catalyst for community-centered change and a home base for the work of rebuilding rural opportunity in these mountains.

Now, we’re taking that mission one step further with Grier Village, a 150-acre, 75,000-square-foot, community-focused development designed to keep Old Fort’s future rooted in service, sustainability, and mountain values. Grier Village will bring together everything we’ve learned over the past decade — from trails that connect communities to programs that train the next generation of outdoor leaders — into a place built for growth, learning, and belonging. Once complete, you’ll be able to find:

🏡 Copper Ridge: modern cabins for multi-generational gatherings and private retreats
🎓 G5 Gap: student housing, classrooms, and lodging for continuing education participants
🌿 Grier Village Basecamp: local retail, unique dining, long-term housing, and hands-on learning from sustainable farming to trail building

As we prepare to open Phase 1, Copper Ridge, we know this is more than a place to stay. This is a living example of what’s possible when we build with the land, not against it. Because the trails have always been about connection, resilience, and the belief that a small mountain town can chart its own path forward.

Grier Village is where all those paths meet. Follow us on Instagram and visit our website today! grier-village.org
