This class will show you the basic idea behind the Lithography printing process. It relies on resistance of oil and water and you can create prints using items you can easily find or have at home. You will make a simple art print using Aluminum Foil as your base, draw an image with marker, crayons, or colored pencils, and then etch it with Coca Cola, of all things! We will print them on the center's printing presses, but this technique can also be hand printed at home. We will explore adding color to the original black and white prints with watercolor monoprint made on kids "Shrinky D**k" plastic." This is a fun process you can do with easy to obtain items. Bring your old kitchen apron, a sketch idea or 3, and the instructor brings the rest!

Come play with watercolor pencils, crayons, and paint to explore the world of mono-printmaking.
Learn about utilizing the secondary image that is created called a "ghost." Your image can be reworked and reprinted several times. The plate students work on is translucent so you can trace/paint over any image you bring (5x7 to 8x10 inch) This is a fun way for watercolorists to pre-test color combinations before committing to a larger piece.

There is no need for solvents as the ink is not oil-based and the range of ink colors is only limited to your access to pigments. Highly portable, all the supplies needed to carve and print a work of art can be packed into a knapsack. Students will learn the techniques of this amazing process while carving and printing their own the practice image. for learning purposes, Students will be introduced to this method by creating a print in the Sumizuri-e style of printing meaning that we will be using sumi ink exclusively.
