Brooklyn Technical High School was founded in 1922 and moved into its present building across from Fort Greene Park in 1933. The massive 12-story Art Deco building cost approximately $6 million to construct and is one of the largest high schools in the United States, with more than 5,000 students. Rising above the roof is a 420-foot radio antenna, bringing the structure’s total height to approximately 597 feet. The facade features sculpted busts honoring pioneers of American engineering and invention, including Robert Fulton, John and Washington Roebling, Wilbur and Orville Wright, and Thomas Edison.

Tucked away near the corner of Seventh and Garden Streets in Hoboken is the former Adas Emuno Synagogue, built in 1883. It is regarded as the oldest surviving purpose-built synagogue building in New Jersey. It was converted into housing in the 1990s.

The Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, NJ was organized in 1725 by Dutch settlers, with its first church built here in 1735. During the Revolutionary War, it served as George Washington’s headquarters, as well as a barracks, hospital and prison. The present stone church was completed in 1800, using stones from the original building, and was remodeled in 1873 with Victorian-era alterations.

The Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn, NY was dedicated in 1908. The Stanford White-designed monument honors more than 11,500 American prisoners who died aboard British prison ships in Wallabout Bay, Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War. Recovered remains of the prisoners, first interred in 1808, were moved here in 1873, and placed in a crypt beneath the grand staircase.

Until 1949, visitors could climb to the top of the 149-foot-tall monument for sweeping views of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
