Why shouldn't you build a teepee in Parks natural areas? 👇
-Building teepees are harmful to native plant species and damages important wildlife habitats. Venturing off designated trails harms native pollinator plants and spreads invasive species. It destroys critical wildlife habitat, compacts the soil, and causes erosion into area waterways.
-You can see in these photos that underneath the teepee only a few plants remain. Surrounding this structure is a lush carpet of native spring ephemerals that had once extended into the space where the teepee now is.
-Please remain on designated trails and help protect our natural areas, plants, and wildlife. Thank you!
If you'd like to report seeing any teepees at our parks please email us at: [email protected]

Parks and trails are open, and we encourage you to take walks or rides to the parks in your local neighborhood, however, as we have been seeing crowds, particularly at lakefront parks, we are now restricting vehicular access to many parking lots. All beaches are currently closed too.

FINAL REMINDER!

City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works
Seeks Community Input on Walking in Milwaukee

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking input from the community about walking in Milwaukee for the City’s first Pedestrian Plan.

The survey deadline is tomorrow - Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

The Milwaukee Pedestrian Plan is being developed by DPW in partnership with Toole Design Group and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The overall goal is to make getting around the city safer, easier, and more comfortable for pedestrians. Our team is currently studying pedestrian crashes, driving and walking behaviors, and City policies for improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians. Based on the feedback from the community and the results of the studies, the Milwaukee Pedestrian Plan will include recommendations to make Milwaukee more pedestrian-friendly.

DPW wants to hear from you: What do you think about walking in Milwaukee?

BONUS: The Milwaukee County Parks Department is updating the 2007 Trails Network Plan. This survey will act as a guide to define the current and future needs of trail users. The data collected from this survey will shape the way the Parks Department manages its existing resources and pursues future trail expansion in Milwaukee County. Our colleagues at County Parks thank you in advance - your input holds the power to make a change!
