Here’s another Procreate interpolated album cover. This one is for ‘s album Talk Talk released this summer. I loved the purple in the original cover art and tried to balance this design in a similar way.

Over the summer I had the opportunity to work with Dan TenNapel and Shilah’s Pet Care to create some labels for Shilah’s. I had so much fun integrating the company mascot Oliver Benson into the logo and seal. It was a great learning experience figuring out some simple packaging design, and working with the client was a great experience too.

Lately I’ve started diving into Procreate as a way to refine my drawing skills a little. I decided to start experimenting with abstracting some album artwork, and Harry’s House is up first. I really love the interaction of the colors and angles in this piece.

Sound Design was the culmination of my college work and combined my love for design, mechanics, and music. It was installed at Trinity Christian College’s (@) Seerveld Gallery. The installation included a book, a long-form video, and LED light bars. The book mimics an earlier project with photos of confetti and colored lines that visualize the movement of the music. The video stitches those same photos together, giving an even better sense of movement. I manufactured the LED light bars by hand (with a ton of trial and error) and programmed them in Lightkey to go with each track. Some moved with the melody, others with the drums, and a few with the BPM of the track. Even with the frustrations and learning curve experience in this project, it’s still one of my favorites and I’m still so proud of it.

The incredible Aubrie Vredevoogd (.photography) captured my focus face on install day. I think my favorite photo number five in this set. After threading my lights in and out of the wall, I realized I was short by a couple feet on wiring. I measured, but didn’t take into account what the inside of the wall had going on. So I pulled the lights out and spontaneously soldered in the gallery to accommodate for the wall’s internal framing. A moment of insane frustration near the end of the day was captured and turned into a cool moment. Thanks Aubrie for the great photos!

This is the first of three posts about my senior thesis work. After choosing to focus on visually representing my own music in various forms, I set about photographing confetti again. After taking a speaker apart and fitting the speaker unit with a balloon membrane, I shot ten tracks from above with a heavy-duty tripod and a hand-made surround to contain the confetti. This process was probably the easiest part of my show. Back in January I had the genius idea to manufacture LED light bars and program them to my music as a physical installation piece. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos that made the process seem relatively easy…and I quickly found out that it was not an easy process. Between buying three different types of light strips, three DMX decoders, and multiple power supplies, I was a little in over my head. My plans changed several times as I worked out the kinks, but the end result was really satisfying. Follow me to see the final product in this journey!

Music has always been such a constant in my life, so it makes sense that it appears in my work so frequently. In this series of paintings, I took my Apple Music Replay playlists from 2019, 2020, and 2021 and interpolated and abstracted the album artwork of my top tracks. All three paintings are based on a loose grid, and each larger square represents a particular album’s cover art. I really love this method of working, so stay tuned for more of these in the future!

The first piece in this set was a 20-hour still life project on canvas, and I’m sad to say I enjoy the next two more. It was a lot more fun to do this setup in different tetrads, and I had a better eyes for value and contrast later on. Anyways, here’s a few paintings of some cool music production gear.

Unveiling is a project focused on the way we as humans have affected the vastness of space. One of my favorite parts of this project was researching GPS satellites and realizing that they’ve just been launched time and time again, leaving the night sky cluttered in a way we can’t see and don’t even realize. I wonder what these posters (and our sky) will look like 20 years from now.

What can I say about this project other than that it served as the inspiration for my senior thesis work? Heavily inspired by Fabian Oefner’s () work, I photographed confetti on a deconstructed speaker as it reacted to a piece of music I made. The colored lines on the bottom of the piece reflect what instruments are present in the mix during the photographed moments. It was really fun to bridge my love of music and design in this project, and it acted as a great proof-of-concept for my senior show.
