🎸 WOLFPACK THEATER COMPANY AUDITIONS – ROCK OF AGES 🎸 April 15!

It’s time… 🤘

We’re heading to the Sunset Strip this summer with Rock of Ages, and auditions are OPEN!

📍 Location: 32 W Main St, Waukon, Iowa
📅 Date: April 15
⏰ Time: 6:30–9:00 PM

⚡️ If you can’t make auditions, reach out—we can set up a virtual or alternate in-person time

🎭 Who we’re looking for:
• High school & college-age performers (main leads & featured roles)
• Late middle school students ready for that next step
• Young Wolves (5th grade & under) are welcome too! (flexible schedule, not required at every rehearsal)

📆 Show Dates: July 9–11 at the Waukon Town Theater

🎬 Rehearsals:
• Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays (7:00–9:00 PM)
• Final month mid June will ramp up as we get closer to showtime, we May do a weekend sat or Sunday rehearsal for young wolves 5th grade or younger etc if enough are cast.

• Ensemble members will typically rehearse 1–2 times per week depending on the build of the show.

🔥 The Wolfpack Difference:
There is a place for everyone—leads, supporting, and ensemble.
But make no mistake… this is a next-level experience.

If you’re ready to push yourself, grow, and be part of something special—we want you.

🌟 IMPORTANT 🌟
This is a focused, high-level rehearsal space similar to a college or advanced high school program. We expect students to be respectful, engaged, and able to work independently within the group. If your child is not able to be unsupervised and behave appropriately in that kind of setting, local school programs may be a better fit for you.

🎤 Audition Details:
• If I haven’t worked with you before, be prepared to:
• Sing part of a song of your choosing
• Read from a script
• Learn and perform a short dance combo (we do a LOT of choreography in our shows)
-come ready to work and have fun!

🎤 If you’re ready for that serious, next-step theater experience…
👉 We’ll see you April 15.

Ethan came to Iowa City without fully knowing what Hancher was, but one moment changed everything. As he drove into the city with his mom for the first time, they passed a large, striking building. Curious, he looked it up and discovered Hancher Auditorium.

“I remember telling my mom, ‘I’ve got to find a way to get on that stage.’”

This spring, Ethan is completing his third year at the University of Iowa and working as a Production Assistant at Hancher. Originally arriving as a theater major before transitioning into dance, Ethan has grown into a multifaceted role that spans backstage production, technical work, and arts administration.

As a Production Assistant, Ethan supports nearly every aspect of a performance. From assisting with lighting and sound to stage managing and coordinating shows, his responsibilities shift depending on the needs of each production. Some days are spent drafting advance communications for incoming artists, while others involve setting the stage for orchestras or dance performances.

“It’s something different every time, which is one of the things I love. One day I’m working on administrative projects, another day I’m setting up for a show, and my favorite is when I get to be backstage during a live performance.”

Ethan’s journey at Hancher has come full circle. He began as a stagehand, learning the fundamentals and supporting productions behind the scenes. Recently, he stepped into a leadership role, calling a show himself.

“I remember being the one setting up chairs and taking directions. Now I’m the one calling the show and giving those directions. That was a full circle moment for me.”

Through his work, Ethan has developed skills that extend far beyond the stage. Collaborating across technical teams, front-of-house staff, and visiting artists has strengthened his ability to communicate, lead, and adapt.

“Learning how to work with different teams and coordinate all the moving parts, that’s something that translates to anything I do in the future.”

Ethan’s experience has also reshaped his path. Before coming to Iowa, he had never danced. Now, after taking an introductory class and performing at Hancher, he is pursuing dance professionally while also exploring opportunities in arts leadership and management.

“I came here not even knowing if I wanted to be in the arts. Now I’ve experienced being on stage, backstage, and in the administrative side. It’s helped me find what I love.”

Coming from a small town where arts opportunities were limited, Ethan sees Hancher as a gateway to possibilities he never imagined.

“I never would have dreamed of working in a production role at a venue like Hancher. It’s a really special feeling to be part of this.”

Thanks to donor support, students like Ethan are able to gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and discover new creative paths.

“It’s because of donors that I’m able to do what I do, not just working here, but performing and growing in the arts. That wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.”

on March 26 is an opportunity to support student experiences like Ethan’s. Your gift helps ensure that students can continue to grow, create, and find their place in the arts.
