COMMUNITY HEALING SUNSET MEDITATION ✨🎨🫶👥🧡🌅TODAY 🌅🧡🙌👥🎨✨
Today is a tender day in Waukesha.
November 21 marks four years since the Waukesha Parade Tragedy. Anniversaries of traumatic events often bring up feelings that can be complex, unexpected, or difficult to put into words. As this day dawns, I offer a gentle reminder that there is no “right” way to feel or be today, and no timeline or rules for what healing should look like. Grief and recovery are not linear. They move in cycles, ebbing and flowing like the tide, receding and returning in waves. Some days feel heavier than others. Some days ask for gentleness. Today is one of those days.
Trauma reminders often stir things in ways we don’t expect and can disrupt our days. Many community members may find memories, emotions, and sensations resurfacing around this time, which can lead to stress, sadness, uncertainty, and a host of other challenges. These are moments that call forth courage and patience within ourselves and care and compassion for others.
To support anyone who may benefit from some grounding and connection before tonight’s Remembrance Ceremony, I will be offering a brief, trauma-informed walking meditation at 4 PM at the Native American Mounds outside the Waukesha Public Library. This 20-minute gathering is designed to create a calm, supportive space to steady the breath, reconnect with the land, and prepare for an emotionally meaningful evening. Healing Art Kits will be available to all who attend.

Afterward, we will walk together (9 minutes) to the City of Waukesha’s Parade Tragedy Remembrance, beginning at 4:39 PM in Grede Park. The city’s ceremony will honor the lives lost, those still healing, and the resilience of this community. It will also include the dedication of the final memorial sculpture, “Holding Love”, by artist Carmen De La Paz. More information about this event can be found here:
