Balancing the Moment

One of those real-time moments from the Heart Ball.
Mid-dance floor, I was tapped to announce the charity auction winners.
Handled the announcement, then went right back into the mix without losing the room.
That’s a big part of what I focus on — balancing the needs of the event while keeping the energy consistent.
It’s not always about the big moments… sometimes it’s how you handle the transitions in between.

Setting the Dance Floor Up Right

From Waukee Northwest Prom at Vibrant Music Hall.
Before the Cupid Shuffle even started, I stepped out from behind the booth and got the room engaged on the mic.
That setup makes a difference.
When everyone’s ready and involved before the first beat drops, the energy carries through the entire dance.

A simple call-and-response moment on the mic — but it makes a big difference.
It’s not about talking more… it’s about using the mic intentionally to connect with the room.
When guests feel involved, everything else gets easier — the energy builds, the dance floor opens up, and the night flows better.

Started with a custom intro I created for the school and built it into over an hour of straight dancing.

It Started Before It Was Supposed To

This was during dinner at Alpha Delta Pi’s formal for Iowa State University.
One guy came straight out of the buffet with his plate and just started dancing with a group already on the floor.
Didn’t wait. Didn’t overthink it.
That’s what I aim for — creating a vibe early so the energy builds naturally instead of needing a hard “start.”

It was one of those moments where you have to decide — play it now, or wait.
Held onto it, found the right spot, and when it dropped, the entire room got involved.
That’s what I focus on.
Not just playing requests, but placing them in a way that actually works for the room.

A Different Way to End the Night

Wrapped up a night at 300 Rooftop with a little personality.
Looped “Get Out” at the end just enough to make the point… then flipped it into Don’t Worry, Be Happy and sent everyone out on a good note.
Always felt like the last moment matters just as much as the first.
