Westside Dance Academy We have a state of the arts facility located at 125 NE Dartmoor Drive, Waukee, Iowa. Our studio has 3 dance rooms with marleyed, sprung floors, and more!

Westside Dance Academy opened it's doors in 1981 with the goal of nurturing a love of dance. Throughout the years, our studio continued to grow. We opened the doors to our new facility that is located at 125 NE Dartmoor Drive in Waukee, December of 2003. This facility offers three large rooms with state of the art suspended marley floors, high ceilings, surround sound stereo and spacious dressing

and waiting areas. The faculty is comprised of eight talented teachers offering classes in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. Our goal at Westside Dance Academy is to provide the highest quality of dance education to each individual student. In a balance of disciplined dance training and imaginative fun, our dancers blossom to their full potential

✨ Senior Spotlight: Melanie Mayer ✨
• High School Attended: Waukee Northwest High School
• Plans for Next Fall: University of lowa as a Biology Major
• Age When Started Dance Lessons: Three Years Old
• Favorite Dance Style: Contemporary and Hip Hop
• Most Memorable Dance: 2024 Lyrical Dance-Battlefield. The dance scored well at competitions and the group of dancers were fun to spend time with.
• Advice to Young Dancers: Be confident in yourself, don’t be afraid to try new things, and be willing to put yourself out there!

In honor of recital week, we’re taking a moment to celebrate our three amazing seniors 💐

✨ Senior Spotlight: Amiah Johnson ✨
•High School: Waukee High School
•Plans For Next Year: University of Iowa; Direct Admit to the Nursing Program with plans to be a NICU nurse
•Age When Started Dance: 3 Years Old
•Favorite Dance Style: Contemporary and Hip Hop
•Most Memorable Dance: Every single practice and dance is memorable to me. Westside is a family and we are all able to work hard while also focusing on real life struggles together. Westside is so important to me, because it’s the reason and love behind dancing.
•Advice to Young Dancers: Always keep going, even on the days you don’t feel 100%. By working hard and being consistent, your hard work will pay off in the end. Also, never let somewone tell you that you can’t do something. Keep working until you prove them differently.

•Future Fall Plans: Attend University of Iowa: Major in Exercise Science; on the Pre-Physical Therapy

•Started Dance: Three Years Old
•Favorite Dance Style: Lyrical
•Most Memorial Dance: It was the 2019-2020 competition production title “Beehive”. It was so fun and everyone seemed to be having an enjoyable time.
•Advice to Younger Dancers: Don’t take it for
granted. It goes by FAST!!!
