Oklahoma House Concerts

Oklahoma House Concerts Bringing music, storytelling, art and other entertainment to a comfy home setting in rural OKlahoma BYOB. Bring your own picnic or snacks.

We experienced House Concerts while living in the Dallas area. We have a beautiful setting out in the country, near Roman Nose State Park, where we host musicians and feature all kinds of music in an informal setting. Suggested donation of $10 per person helps pay for musician's travelling expenses. If weather isn't good, we move indoors.

In-home concerts let you experience live music your way
House concerts have been around since at least the
1800s, but they’ve recently
found new popularity. As the
name implies, house concerts
are musical events in homes
rather than public
performance spaces. They
usually have small audiences
sitting close to the musicians,
who don’t use microphones.
“We love the intimate setting of house concerts,” says Costco member Mare Wake-field of
the married musical duo Mare Wakefield & Nomad, based in Nashville, Tennessee. “The
house concert setting allows us to laugh and joke with the audience, and also to be ‘real’
about the songs and our music journey. Sometimes house concerts include a Q&A session,
so folks can learn more about us.”

Fran Snyder, musician and founder of the Listening Room Network, based in St.
Petersburg, Florida, further explains
the concept. “Most house concerts feature folk/acoustic original music. Independent artists
can share music and experiences directly to their fans.”

The Listening Room Network (listeningroomnetwork.com) is considered the leading
promoter of house concerts in the U.S., with about 1,000 members. It provides advice,
resources and connections to artists, hosts and music lovers.

Costco member and host Rebecca Wellborn of Dunedin, Florida, says her home and
backyard are “the perfect spot to host events,” with multiple seating areas, surrounding an
open-air pool. “We set up the stage under a tent. It is like a natural amphitheater. It makes
people happy and in turn that makes me happy.”

“One of the main reasons I started hosting was because I got tired of paying to attend
shows and then having people around me talk through them,” says Andria Brown of
Memphis, Tennessee. “The artists I most enjoy have words that matter. At a house show, I’m
curating an unusual setting for most people—one where they really get to connect with
the artist.”

Wakefield adds, “Every audience member leaves a house concert feeling like they’ve had a
backstage pass.”
