Beyond Technique: Presence, Mechanics, and the Wheel

Throwing is more than technique. The quality of our attention. breath, posture, and movement directly affects the clay. This workshop combines the science of wheel throwing, principles of mindfulness, and practical exercises to help potters develop greater awareness, efficiency, and responsiveness at the wheel. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of both the mechanics of throwing and the practices that support consistency, confidence, and long-term growth in the studio.

This class will focus on the process of throwing rather than any end product

The first five was developed by Old Forge Cermics as an easy and inexpensive entry to glaze mixing that uses the same five basic ingredients. In this 3 part workshop we'll discuss some glaze mixing basics and mix 3 base glazes (gloss, floating and matte) so participants can do their own experiments with colorants. The idea is to allow participants to become comfortable with the mixing process and experiment a little. Each participant will mix their own set of base glazes that they will be able to experiment with.
