Okay, though I rarely post to the Cavern page, this is quite a milestone for me.

This month marks 30 years since I opened for clients. Wow! Where did all that time go.
Through 4 renovations, many gear expansions, 1 wife, 3 or 4 girlfriends and lots of great work and stories. Everything from a Nun playing my Hammond C3 to death metal and so so much in between, I still am in the studio nearly every day and mostly can't wait to do it.
I feel extremely fortunate to have new and repeat clients some for nearly as long as I've been here.
Just today, a client picked up his new album .This makes 5 with me here.
Some started here as teenagers or young adults and now are parents, even grandparents. Yikes.
It's all good. Huge thanks to those who come and keep coming. Keep it up. Maybe I can help you create your masterpiece...

Like many other recording/mix engineers I often rail on the pitfalls of streaming services. This article explains it all.

Streaming is now the most important way in which music is consumed. So how can you make sure your music sounds as good as possible?

Saddened to hear of the passing of recording engineer legend, Ed Cherney. With more than 350 album credits and 9 Grammy nominations, here are a few of the artists he worked with.
Iggy Pop, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Lenny Cravitz, Wynton Marsalis, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones and many many more...

So if you are in the market for a great guitar at a reasonable price, might I suggest bidding on one of the vast collection of Walter Becker's estate auction. By the way, there are at least 10 CP Thornton guitars included. Unfortunately, I'm ledt handed. {sigh}.

LOS ANGELES – Julien’s Auctions will present “Property from the Estate of Walter Becker,” a two-day celebration of the musical artistry of famed Steely Dan co-founder, co-songwriter, bassist, producer and guitarist, on October 18 and 19 live at The Standard Oil Building in Beverly Hills and ...

So even with a Soundelux u99 and Peluso p67 microphones (both quite expensive) I pulled out an old AKG 1000 yesterday for backing vocals. Worked great. What this re-affirms is that it's about matching mics to singers whether or not that mic is so-called high end. Good fun in the Cavern...

So I'm going to sing the praises of the JBL company for a moment.
I use a JBL monitor controller. I bought it last July. A weird scratchy noise appeared around Christmas. Finally decided to give them a call to see what they could do. It was still on warranty but it isn't their policy to do advanced replacements after 45 days of purchase. However, when I told them I was a working studio and really did not want to be without one, they approved a replacement before I could get the bad unit to them. Not only did they send one, they overnighted a new one and forwarded a call tag for the bad one. I got it yesterday, swapped it out. No charge. Done. They are awesome...

This cracked me up from an interview with the one and only Carol Kaye. Probably the most famous bass player in American recorded history. The 'wall of sound' was the phrase attached to producer Phil Spector's sound with a whole lot of hit records from the late 50's into the 70's from LA.

>>> People are very interested in the construction of the "wall of sound".

Get as many bodies in the studio as possible and have them all playing the same part and leaking into each other's mics like crazy. That's what it was. But I do think it's more than that. Phil, back there in the booth — we all watched him as he grew and grew and grew with the sound and he tried this and tried bouncing this track over here and this one over there. And we're just standing there, "Wow, you can do that?" Phil Spector invented the use of the earphones in the studio. He dumped too much of that echo in there. The echo that he used was built by Dave Gold and Stan Roth at Gold Star Recorders. They ran that echo through the women's restroom, so if I had to go to the can while they were making a playback they'd say, "Don't flush the toilet, Carol." Dave can tell you about the specs of that echo, but Phil used it to its maximum. He knew how to work it but I think a lot of the "wall of sound" was that
