Still planning for my trip to Newfoundland. Today… building a moose! This took several hours over two days. Now to find the perfect landscape to photograph him in.

Get cracking... it's National Egg Day!
In the realm of Dark Oak Forest, egg harvesting can be a dangerous proposition. The Oakenfield brothers are on a mission to harvest some fresh eggs from a pair of thrashers. Unfortunately, stealth mode is not their specialty. Little Birch quietly sneezes while big brother Aspen gives a very loud, "God bless you!". That's all it took for the thrasher's sharp ears. In a wingbeat they were on the brothers like flies on roadkill. Forrest, always a quick thinker, distracts the birds by sacrificing one of their pilfered orbs. While the thrashers protect their precious egg, the brothers quickly escape into the woods and safety.

The acorns are a little late on their morning post and with good reason. They are taking a much needed cat nap! After a late night of work, Rip van Wrinkle didn't have the strength to make it to bed, so he joined his friend Fluffy for a little snooze. Fluffy's paws make surprisingly soft pillows. This incredibly cozy sleeping nook, complete with a built-in white noise machine set to purring mode, caused Rip to sleep deep into the morning.

See how I create an Atlantic Puffin for my upcoming trip to Newfoundland. I am really hoping to photograph this guy with some real puffins in the background - but I will need to get lucky for that shot. Next up - a moose! Let me know if any other Newfoundland wildlife/activities the acorns should try.

Jasper Thistleberry was enjoying solitude while hiking through the canyonlands. Suddenly, he felt the earth shake slightly. "Earthquake?" he thought. He continued without much worry. A few more trembles caused him to pause, and then a warm wind was felt on his backside. Jasper froze. Something didn't seem right. Was he being followed? Cautiously, he turned around. He was startled to be face to face with an Acorniraptor, long thought to be extinct. However, today is Dinosaur Day, so anything can happen. Did some scientists clone this creature? Has he been in hiding like the Loch Ness Monster? Is he a member of an underground cryptoids anonymous group? No time to ponder these far flung thoughts. Instead, Jasper dropped his backpack and put it in high gear, making a beeline for the nearest shelter or hiding place. He instantly regrets abandoning his supplies and wondered if the squirrel spray would have worked on this sharp-toothed predator.

Today we honor the 45th state. It's National Utah Day! Known for 5 beautiful National Parks, Jasper Thistleberry has been itching to visit this amazing place. He loaded his backpack with only the essentials (water bottle, food, shelter, and squirrel spray), then trekked out into the wilderness to find solitude, beauty, and hopefully discover a little bit about himself. Here he is hiking through Canyonlands National Park. With lots of tiny footsteps, he plans on visiting all five of the parks. Have you been to any? If so, which is your favorite and why?

Phil O'Dendron is absolutely blooming on this National Water a Flower Day! Phil may not have a green thumb (or any thumbs, for that matter) but he sure loves having colorful blossoms around his house. Everyone's smile grows a little longer when surrounded by the beauty of bloom. Have you planted a flower garden? What is you favorite flower to grow?

On a beach where waves tickle the sands, Melody Arpeggio sits happily at her baby grand. She plays an ephemeral tune conjured through her imagination and inspired by sounds all around her. A gull squawks loudly, and the piano echoes with a thunder of high notes. A wave swishes across shells, and low notes respond with a whisper like a giant tiptoeing across a wooden floor. This is a concert that happens only once. No big venue or ticket. No merch table or audience. No applause. The music vanishes like water through sand. And that was point. This morning wasn't about Melody giving a performance. It was her private symphony to be enjoyed by her alone.

Go behind the scenes and see how I build a watering can for National Water a Flower Day. This can took about an hour to build. It is these small details in my work that help make the acorn folk seem alive.

When last we saw Sandy Castleman he had called for an Uber Crab to ferry him safely back to the bungalow after a long day on the beach. Unfortunately, Sandy did not realize that this Uber Crab was turbo charged and running late for a date with his girlfriend. She promised a full evening: moonlit scuttle across the tide pools, a candlelit seaweed salad for two, and the grand debut of her brand new conch shell evening gown. Not just any shell. This was an original Coconut Chanel. Hand polished, limited edition, and it came with its own tiny pearl clutch. With a pep in his step, this crab took off across the beach like a rocket. He wasn't going to be late. Sandy held on for dear life!
