"September, 2026 will be 25 years since the horrific 9/11 attack in New York. I was totally traumatized by what happened on that day. A friend of mine called my husband that morning and told him to turn on the television, and we watched as the twin towers were taken down, and thousands of people lost their lives.

This tragedy became an obsession for my art work and I spent the next several years creating prints and paintings in order to express my grief and mourning. At the time I had a painting studio in the Codman building, a former factory in Rockland, MA and one of the other residents there was an architect. He and I created and submitted a design for the 9/11 memorial in New York. It was not accepted, but it helped us to deal with the tragedy."

Today we are honoring Susan Blair as remembered by Lisa Cook:

"I remember exactly where I was standing. I was watching on the news, shell shocked. I immediately received a call from a client’s wife who asked me to feed her husband that afternoon, (he was in a nursing home with dementia) she was in shock and said, “Susie is in the tower”. Susie was her daughter. It was the saddest thing I ever heard. The last she was seen was helping a pregnant down the stairs from the 78th floor. There was eventually a service for her in Attleboro and months later I kept receiving the Oprah magazine through a subscription that Susie bought me. I cried every month.

RIP Susan Blair.... She was a good one! I can’t share on camera... I could NEVER get through that without becoming ridiculously emotional. But I had to share with someone, because Susie deserved it."

"I was born in Boston, my parents named me Bradford Scott. Pretty cool formal name and I frequently go by Brad. When I’m in my art genre, it’s more B’rad. With that said, besides schooling, I’ve spent the majority of my life in commercial real estate and have pivoted. I have shed my suits like a butterfly metamorphosis and spent the majority of my time in the art world. My greatest accomplishments, thus far, are my three great sons and a new daughter-in-law. Focus, realignment, intuition, gratitude, and meditation have given me focus as life evolves. You can’t wait until life isn’t hard to be happy…"

This piece so aptly titled "Hope" (Paper made in the Korean method of
Joomchi, 16” x 20”, $500) , encasulates this exhibits intentions, as the artists work through their experiences in their work.

"Making art has always been part of my life. I discovered Joomchi in 2019. The unpredictability of the outcome is exciting to me. My piece represents the darkness that September 11 brought to the world with a yellow glimmer of hope that we have learned from this tragic event."

"I have learned in my nearly five decades on this planet that life is ever-changing. My art tends to be the same. My vision for each piece is unique. Being self-taught, and learning as I go, may be the more difficult path, but I enjoy the process. I learn and adapt with each stroke of the palette knife. Often, I paint vibrant, flowing, abstract concepts. Occasionally, however, I will get direction from somebody close to me. “Do
you think you could paint...”, whatever the case may be. I love to be challenged. I paint to express myself, but also to release. my creative energy. I can tell when life has gotten too busy for me to have found time to paint. My brain feels off. Even just ten minutes of scraping my knife on a canvas can center me. Creative expression is also a wonderful salve for my neurodivergent brain. Often enough, it is the way that I can best express myself."
