PUPDATE: The Votes Are In!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who voted! We loved being able to have our friends and family help us choose the wolves' names.

Meet the pack:
๐Ÿค White Female Wolf: Aurora
๐Ÿ–ค Black Female Wolf: Ash
๐Ÿค White Male Wolf: Everest
๐Ÿ–ค Black Male Wolf: Summit

The pups are growing and developing quickly. At nearly 7 weeks old, they spend their days developing their hunting and social skills, testing boundaries, and working out their pack hierarchy. Every day the pack is learning and changing dynamics.

We are putting the finishing touches on their new habitat and can't wait to move them into their new home. We hope to see you at the ribbon cutting on June 24th!

We have been getting many calls on fledgling songbirds. This is a very important time for these songbirds as they leave the nest but it also is a very dangerous time. Please if you find a young bird in your yard, please leave them be but also keep your cats indoors and your dog leashed. These fledgling birds do not know what predators are and are easy picking for a predator. Unless the bird is injured in anyway and is brought into the zoo just because it was lone in your yard, we will more then likely send it back home with you to be put back where you found it. It is so important that these young birds be raised by their parents and not zoo staff.

There are some exceptions. If you find a lone duckling or just a couple with no other ducks or ducklings around, these birds need your help and can be brought into the zoo. When a hen duck is leading her brood to near by water (sometimes can be miles away) if any ducklings fall behind or get separated they will be left behind.

Spring/summer is a time for birds nesting and raising young so please keep cats inside, fledglings are easy prey for cats.

If you are concerned about a bird, before catching it and brining it to the zoo, please call and let us help to see if intervention is needed.

Thank you!

5/29 ๐Ÿบ PUPDATE: Then & Now!

The wolves are almost 6 weeks old already. It's hard to believe how quickly these wolf pups are growing.

The wolf pups weigh about 10 pounds this week and are hitting all of their milestones. Their paws, heads, and ears still seem large, but that's exactly what they should look like at this age. They've started drinking water, have more energy between feedings, and are learning new skills every day. They enjoy practicing their jumps... usually onto a sibling.

We're also starting to see some changes in their coloring. The darker pups are developing white markings on their feet, and both now have white rings on their tails. While they're spending more time playing and exploring, they're still very much babies. They have more energy between feedings, but when it's nap time, they crash.

Don't forget to vote in the wolf pup naming contest! We're so excited to teach them their names and can't wait to share more as they continue to grow.

Which pup has changed the most? Let us know your opinion in the comments! ๐Ÿพ

Quick bald eagle release today! This eagle is the sole survivor of 9 bald eagles brought in this spring due to lead poisoning, 8 other eagles did not make it to this stage. It is so important to these birds, and other birds, that people do not use lead shot or fishing tackle.

This eagle was found March 25th near Arlington SD and brought in by SDGFP. Luckily the bird was actually in fairly good health as lead poisoning does not take long before the bird is so sick it cannot pull thru. Treatments were started right away and supportive care is all we can do to save birds with lead poisoning.

This spring we saw a high number of eagles found with lead poisoning. Please if you hunt and fish, try to use non toxic tackle and ammo and always remember it is illegal to hunt waterfowl with lead shot, these eagles were victims of irresponsible spring goose hunters.
